It is with both great excitement and sadness that I am writing today to tell you that I have accepted the position of Superintendent for the Highline Public Schools beginning in July. It has been an honor for me to serve the students, staff and families of Seattle Public Schools for the past year. I thank all of you for the hard work and support of our students. Principal appointed for new STEM school in Boren

I am delighted to appoint Dr. Shannon McKinney as principal for the new K-5 STEM at Boren, which opens September 2012 in West Seattle.

Helen Ngo, an apparel and textile student at Franklin High School, took first place in the Feb. 4 Fashion Construction Competition held at the Second Annual Fashion Industry Conference.

Linda Burgess, a sign language interpreter at Eckstein Middle School, provided sign language services during a Feb. 19 choir concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Polly, a Jersey calf, visited Montlake Elementary School Feb. 16 to help illustrate a dairy's farm-to-table journey and the benefits of dairy and calcium for children's growing bodies. Shannon Rodeffer, Washington State Dairy Ambassador, also spoke to students as they ate lunch.
