Excellence for All: Family and Community Engagement

 

Maple Elementary students visiting with Superintendent EnfieldSuperintendent's priorities include community engagement

Interim Superintendent Susan Enfield is committed to meeting with and listening to staff, families and community organizations as part of her listening and engagement plan. Over the past weeks, she has met with various groups, including members of the East African community, Our Schools Coalition, Native American community, Seattle Education Association and Seattle Council PTSA.

Open Enrollment for 2011-12 continues through April 15

Families are reminded that the last day of Open Enrollment is Friday, April 15. During Open Enrollment, families may register their child to enter SPS in fall 2011, apply for a school other than their assigned school, and/or apply for Montessori, Spectrum or APP. For more Open Enrollment information, read the news release or visit the Enrollment website.

 

13 schools to be recognized April 27 with Achievement Awards

Thirteen Seattle Public Schools will be honored April 27 for winning the Washington Achievement Award for overall excellence and special recognition in language arts, math, science, graduation rate, improvement and closing achievement gaps. The schools are: AS#1, Catharine Blaine, Bryant, Concord, Coe, Hay, Home School Resource Center, Loyal Heights, McGilvra, Mercer, Montlake, NOVA and Schmitz Park.

 

 

Lesley Rogers
Interim School Superintendent Susan Enfield announced that Lesley Rogers has been appointed Chief Communications Oficer for Seattle Public Schools, following a national search. She started April 4 and will oversee internal and external communications.

unicycle teamMcDonald/Queen Anne unicycle team perform at expo

The McDonald Elementary and Queen Anne Elementary Unicycle Club, led by health and fitness instructor Brent Roberts, helped kick off the Bicycle Expo last month with two performances. The riders, who had never ridden a unicycle before October, set goals and practiced daily for the event.
