Please vote by Nov. 2; operations levy on ballot
We are placing a $48.2 million, three-year operating levy on the Nov. 2 ballot.   Additional information is available on our Levy Information website.

School Reports will be issued on Nov. 9
In November, we will issue new reports on student achievement and other measures at every school.  More information is available in the "District News" section.

Three-year, $48.2 million operations levy on Nov. 2 ballot;
levy to support students and teachers
Seattle voters will be asked to vote by Nov. 2 on a three-year, $48.2 million operations levy. The levy funds are designed to: reduce the severity of state cuts to education; support students and teachers in the classroom; and fund new textbooks and materials. Read more.

Seattle Public Schools is issuing School Reports next month to let families and community members know how each school is doing. Read more.

Early enrollment for 2011-12 school year opens for new students
Incoming kindergarten students and others who will be new to Seattle Public Schools for the 2011-12 school year can get a jump on the enrollment process starting this week. Early enrollment is offered through Jan. 31, 2011. Read more.

School Board members and staff shared action plans on Oct. 6 to correct issues identified in the 2008-09 state audit reports. Read more.

New grading policy in effect for middle and high school students

Franklin student wins National Academy Foundation scholarship
Stephanie Tran, a student of Franklin High School's Academy of Finance, was a winner of a $2,000 award from the National Academy Foundation/Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition Internship Stories Scholarship. Read more.

state finalist in 'Doodle 4 Google' contest

Margaux Daniel, a student at John Hay Elementary, was recognized as a state finalist in Google's "Doodle 4 Google" contest. Read more.

Erin Lynch
Hale teacher to receive World Educator Award
The World Affairs Council of Seattle announced that Erin Lynch, a teacher at Nathan Hale High School, is the recipient of its 2010 World Educator Award. The award honors her significant contributions to international understanding in the classroom and to the development of international resources for the benefit of educators. Read more.


Ballard teacher wins innovative 3D printer in nationwide contest
Craig Nielsen, an engineering teacher at Ballard High School, was one of 10 winners who won a Makerbot 3-D printer in a nationwide contest.  Read more.

Four teachers surprised with awards, school supplies worth $1,000
Four Seattle Public Schools teachers were surprised Oct. 5 with awards and $1,000 in school supplies as part of the "A Day Made Better" national event celebrating teachers for their extraordinary efforts in the classroom. Read more.

District receives $1.05 million grant to increase student achievement at three schools in the southeast region
Seattle Public Schools received a $1.05 million, three-year Youth Engagement Zone grant that will improve academic and civic engagement for students attending STEM @ Cleveland, Aki Kurose Middle School and Mercer Middle School. Read more.

Nathan Hale students benefit from new greenhouse
Nathan Hale horticulture students are now holding classes surrounded by glass in their new 3,100-square-foot greenhouse. The students are currently growing poinsettias for the winter holiday, which will be sold to raise funds for the school's horticulture program. Read more.

Reflections competition under way; theme is 'Together We Can'
Students are invited to participate in this year's
Reflections program, a cultural arts competition sponsored by the National PTA and the Washington State PTA. The program has six arts areas - dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts. Read more.
