WSAE CAE Scholarship Fund off to a great start Thanks to our generous contributors
We all know that it is a costly venture in both time and money to prepare and sit for the certified association executive (CAE) exam. The application, the test, the study groups and the books all add up to an impressive investment by the candidate. To help with these costs and encourage strong classes of candidates, WSAE has established a CAE scholarship fund.
Since it was approved in fall 2009, the WSAE CAE Scholarship Fund has grown to $470. Our first recipient, Megan Cuccia, went on to pass the CAE exam in May!
WSAE wishes to thank all those who have helped launch the Scholarship Fund with their generous donations.

Conversations from WSAE's Connected Community
I'm looking for a resource that would enable us to host a simple webinar - basically just want to be able to run a power point and have conversation via a conference call. Any recommendations for me?
How do you find the right balance between a board that is constantly looking over your shoulder and a board that is AWOL and is never engaged.
We are in the process of revising/adding to our current policies and guidelines. If anyone is willing to share a listing of your association policies, please e-mail me. Specifically, we are interested in volunteer management policies and guidelines on how to release committee volunteers.
Wondering if other association publishing professionals have joined education and networking groups such as Association Media and Publishing or if anyone can recommend other organizations or e-groups that can give me a boost. Alternatively, would any publishing gurus be interested in developing a community here online to share ideas and examples of their work? -perhaps meeting face-to-face occasionally for a publishing "roundtable?"
We all have event horror stories. Let's have some fun and share some of them (while being sensitive to the make-up of our community).
We are planning to send a letter to each of our employees at the beginning of each new fiscal year thanking them for all of their work for members of the association, and listing their salary and benefits (not explaining each benefit in detail, but rather quantifying the cost/value of the benefits). Does anyone have a good model or template for such a letter they would be willing to share?

Governance best practices for non-profits Insights into IRS Form 14114
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a well-governed charity is more likely to obey the tax laws, safeguard charitable assets and serve charitable interests, than one with poor or lax governance. An organization that has a defined purpose, strong governing body and management team, and sound management practices, is more likely to serve the public and maintain compliance with tax filings. With the IRS' attention focused on governance, as well as the new governance section of Form 990, organizational controls, policies, and procedures are now falling into the spotlight. Charities should keep this in mind in developing initiatives. |
