Join Coastal Community Foundation in celebrating this year's Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year, Andrea Hazel! On October 14 from 5-7 pm at the Coastal Community Foundation Center, Andrea's Lowcountry-inspired artwork will be displayed for the community to enjoy. Stop by to meet the artist and enjoy her work.

Before becoming a self-taught photographer, Andrea Hazel taught math. With a gift of watercolor supplies on her 53rd birthday, she closed her photography business and has been painting ever since.

Sonny Sutton, Administrative Data AssistantSonny Sutton, the recently hired Administrative Data Assistant to the Grants and Programs department, had his first experience with site visits for Open Grants finalists last month. After finishing over 40 visits, he got a good idea of what our grantees do for the community and what the Foundation does for our donors.

Upcoming Events in the Lowcountry

South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO) invites you to join them for a series of 6 half-hour webinars teaching nonprofit organizations how to build a board- and funder-ready technology plan. These webinars will be held weekly from October 5 to November 9.  Space is limited so register today!   

 

Join Trident United Way and WCIV-ABC News Channel 4 on October 6 from 6-7:30 pm at the North Charleston City Hall for Education Town Hall where the community will address the challenges in educating Lowcountry youth.The goals for this meeting include advancing a culture of learning in our community, identifying educational opportunities, and promoting involvement and volunteerism.   

 

Crisis Ministries, South Carolina's largest homeless shelter, gives homeless individuals and families the tools they need to get back on their feet. With their campaign to raise money for a brand new shelter almost complete, they are ready to get started! Join staff, neighbors, friends, and supporters on October 18 at 10am at 573 Meeting Street to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new shelter. The new shelter will have more beds, more space, and more resources to help individuals and families move out of homlessness and into safe, stable housing of their own.  

 

Enjoy succulent BBQ and homemade sweets and sides at the Center for Heirs' Property Preservation's "Heritage of Home Cookin'" luncheon in Hampton Park on October 1 from 11am to 5pm. Celebrity judges - Jimmy Hagood (BlackJack Barbeque and Food for the Southern Soul), Ann McGill (LIVE 5 News) and Robert Behre (Post and Courier) will award the tastiest BBQ pig and chicken, while YOU vote on your favorite sweets and sides! Fill your plate for $10 and help support the Center's work in providing education and legal services to help heirs' property owners keep their family land.
