Touched by an Angel
By Meg Goforth-Ward
Imagine needing to travel because of a medical issue but not having the money to do so. Angel Flight helps eliminate that problem by coordinating free air transportation for people with medical or humanitarian needs. In 2009, Angel Flight coordinated 2,542 missions, about 217 of them for South Carolina patients. Pilots donate their time and money for the airplane's operational costs to ensure that people with medical needs get where they need to go. Angel Flight operates out of Florida and has a sister organization called Air Charity Network. ACN not only provides free flights for people with medical needs but also assists people when a family, community, or national crisis arises and there is no other way to get there. Interested? Check out Angel Flight's website to get more information or request a flight. |
Reach Out by Volunteering Your Time On Saturday, October 16, 2010, the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is holding MS Service Day. Many people with Multiple Sclerosis have trouble doing day to day chores and activities because of their disability or limitations. Anything from changing a light bulb to simple yard work becomes a problem. MS Service Days gathers volunteers from around the community to help people with MS complete the simple tasks that you and I take for granted: yard work, painting, cleaning, washing windows, organization or closets and shelves, and light repairs. This day also helps people with MS enjoy the company of a caring and compassionate person. The day begins at 8am and will wrap up around 3pm. For more information and to download a copy of the volunteer application, visit the MS Service Day 2010 website.
