Top 40 Facebook Fan Pages 2010 - Revealed!
We looked at over 1,000 pages which were nominated, and hundreds more, and 40 were selected as the best of the best. Now, with over 3 million Fan Pages and with increased Facebook functionality, stream targeting, and enhanced applications for pages, the competition was steeper than ever. The criteria that we considered were Brand Responsiveness, Interactivity, Creativity, Overall Design/Graphics, & Fan Count. We tried to include a mix of big brands such as Dunkin Donuts, nonprofits such as Ocean City, MD, and small businesses such as Café Brazil - so that the list would be relevant to as many organizations as possible. Without further ado, here are the top 40! How many of these Pages had you seen before?
What Facebook's new "Like" Means for Your Page
Facebook, always innovating, is rolling out lots of changes this week. One substantial change is the terminology on business pages changing from "become a fan" to "like" and the addition of 6 million+ unofficial "Community Pages". For insight from our CEO Dave Kerpen on this change, and what the short term and long-term implications are for your business (Don't worry, it's mostly positive!) please click here to read our recent article.
We often host free webinars to share content and insight. To view any of our previous 19 webinars, check out our "For Fans Only" tab on our Facebook Fan Pages here. (Hehe, you'll have to become a fan first to see the webinars of course).
Breaking News from Chirp & f8!
Facebook's innovations announced at f8 yesterday are nothing short of revolutionary. Facebook held f8, its annual developer conference yesterday and Twitter hosted Chirp, its inaugural developer conference, last week. There were lots of key developments from both companies as they compete for attention from millions of users and advertisers. Did you know that Twitter now has over 105,000,000 users? Twitter also announced their ad platform, Promoted Tweets, and a slew of other new features on their roadmap. Read more about news from Chirp here. Facebook, however, is stealing the spotlight back this week - and our team was at f8 in San Francisco, led by our COO Carrie Kerpen.
FAQ's for the Social Media Novice Just because you get our newsletter, doesn't mean you're as experienced or knowledgeable as our team or clients. Social media and word of mouth marketing is an ever-changing landscape, and can be overwhelming, especially for those just getting started and/or learning. That's why we put together a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions and set of links and resources for the Social Media Novice. Who is social media for? How and why should you get started? What is the ROI? To access this free FAQ, click here.
How Will Recent Foursquare Updates Change the Game?
With nearly 1 million users and rapid growth, Foursquare is the most-talked about social network amongst insiders recently. The location-based-network allows users to check-in wherever they go, leaving tips about restaurants, bars and other retail locations, and earning badges and even "Mayorships" for checking in the most or at certain places. It's part social network, part review site, and part game. But recent changes to avoid "cheating" have upset a lot of users. Will recent changes stall Foursquare's growth? Is Foursquare worth "checking into", as a potential personal user and/or business user? For insight into these recent changes, click here, and for our recent parody video on Foursquare, click here.
Yahoo, Pepsi & Microsoft Know "It's All About You"
Advertising and marketing used to focus on products and services - the features and benefits unique to the company doing the advertising. Well, the days of flashy ads demonstrating how great products are ending quickly - and they're being replaced by campaigns which focus on you- the user. We're thrilled with the shift in tides from brand-centric marketing to consumer-centric marketing - and believe that whether you're a huge company or a small business, this shift has key takeaways to consider. We shared 3 recent examples from huge brands Yahoo, Pepsi and Microsoft in the article here.
5 Companies Leveraging Consumer Feedback Through Social Networks
We've said it before- and we'll say it again - social media is better for listening than it is for talking. Marketers and communicators are used to thinking about how they can get their messages out to customers - but with social media - there's tons of value just in listening to what your customers are saying. Starbucks, Dell, Rubbermaid and others get this - are you listening to your customers and potential customers yet on Facebook, Twitter, and other communities? For 5 examples of companies doing a great job harnessing consumer feedback on social networks, check out our article here.
