TxCC Notes-From the Executive Director
|
I'd
like to take a moment to tell you about someone who has been an important part
of The Compact family. Amy Kauffman, our
former intern and former Director of PR has opened up her own company - Bluebird
PR. As a partner in Bluebird PR, Amy has
been managing public relations for Texas Campus Compact - pro bono - for the
past six months. Amy is a 2008 graduate
of the University of Texas at Austin and we are delighted that she and
Bluebird have chosen to offer their public relations expertise to Texas Campus
Compact. For more information about
Bluebird PR go to www.bluebirdpublicrelations.com

Warmly,
Patricia Paredes
Executive Director, M.A.

Texas Campus Compact Highlights and Accomplishments for the year
|
Your membership enabled us to
accomplish so much this year. Thank you!

·
Our Stem in
Action Community Impact grant award from the Office of the Governor has enabled
us to partner with Austin Community College, to launch our states premier program
model for incorporating civic engagement and service learning components into science,
technology, engineering, and math curriculum at the high school, community
college, and university levels, recruiting individuals underrepresented within
STEM education
·
We have expanded our VISTA slots from 18 to 25; the ROI for
a VISTA is $34,000, and as a member your campus has the opportunity to apply to
become a VISTA Host Site
·
Our inaugural Advisory Council is formed and positioned with
some of our states finest and most knowledgeable service learning educators
·
We established our inaugural Faculty Fellows - a group of faculty leaders who modeled best practices, recruited
other faculty, and helped to institutionalized service-learning
·
We held our first Lobby Day at the Capitol and now have our
first Rider in Article 11. If successful
in bringing it to Article 3, we will become a line item on the Legislative
Budget, reinvesting these monies back to our member campuses
·
We have access to cutting-edge, national syllabi, a speakers
bureau, and national resources to share with our members
·
Our first service learning publication - The Compact Impact - is currently being
printed - a statewide publication on best practices - an opportunity for
faculty engaged in service learning throughout Texas to become published
·
We will be hosting our first Serve. Learn.
Live. Membership dinner
on November 5, at The Omni Hotel with Honorary Chairs Bernard & Audre
Rapoport
·
We hosted our first Student Lyceum on HIV / AIDS Awareness
with Prairie View A & M and our Engaging Conversations series with UT Arlington and
UT-San Antonio.
·
We developed a new tag line:
Can you spare some social change?
·
We have created the TXCC - AHEC Learn & Serve
Consortium, aggregated 6 projects into a single consortium and took the lead on
writing the grant which is currently under consideration
·
We have submitted project concept letters to potential
grantors to fund member consortiums around issues such agri-business,
healthcare, arts, and economics
·
We have implemented our first blog: www.meetup.com/education-96
and also have a facebook and twitter presence
·
We have secured Bluebird Public Relations to manage our
statewide public relations - pro bono
