A Quote to remember

Never comment on a woman's rear end.

Never use the words "large" or "size" with "rear end."

Never. Avoid the area altogether. Trust me.

Tim Allen

Greetings!

Welcome to March 2010.

It has been a pretty hectic period for us this month.

A quick drive to Sydney to sign a couple of buses and bucket loads of rain forcing us to postpone a fair amount of outside work.

Losing all my quote data for the last 6 months made it a bit more stressful, but I can only blame myself for being a bit lax on the backups. Fortunately all my graphics data is backed up automatically so there was no issue there.

We also have our new website up and running, although there are still some cosmetic changes to be made. The best news is that our Gallery is back up again after a 2 year hiatus.

You'll notice this ezine is later than usual too, largely due to my workload at the moment. I apologise for that.

Most of my clients and friends have reported a steady increase in work from the beginning of the year, although I think with home loan rates on the rise again, the market is showing signs of slowing again when it comes to setting spending budgets.

Getting paid once a job has been completed is once again becoming an issue, especially around gst month. Also, most businessmen I speak to have less confidence in the present political climate than they did 2 years ago.

Interestingly, one of our leading industry magazines, wideformatonline.com, ran a 7 day poll recently asking their readers "Are you in favour of the recent changes to the IR laws?"

The results didn't come as a total surprise. 95% said no, 4% were not sure and 1% said yes.

While they didn't publish the number that responded to the poll, the figures are probably consistant with what I hear in my travels and doesn't bode well for job seekers in our industry if employers don't feel they have confidence in the 'system'..

Time will tell I guess.
Gambling on Psychedelic Carpet
Mesmerised gamblers spend more money

couriermail.com.au reported recently that LAS Vegas casinos could be using sickly psychedelic patterned carpets to keep gamblers awake and spending money.

The report explains that thousands of square metres of mesmerising designs have been captured by Swedish photographer Chris Maluszynsk in hotels such as the MGM Grand and Bellagio.

Mr Maluszynsk spent four years snapping the kaleidoscopic designs after noticing them on a business trip.

He told Mail Online "I noticed the carpets were as loud as everything else out there and I was really blown away by the detail and effort that had gone into them, I found myself trying to give my eyes a rest from the chaos by looking at the floor, but there is no respite even there.

"It's all about keeping you stimulated. Tourists spend money when they are not asleep."

Dr David Schwartz from the Center for Gaming Research in Nevada said casinos deliberately use strange carpet designs that somehow encourages people to gamble.

"Many of the carpets use wheels - famous to the Romans as a symbol of the relentless capriciousness of fortune," he said.

"Could it be a subtle reminders to casino patrons that life and luck are fleeting, and one should eat, drink, and be merry before the morrow brings a swing in fortune?"

The intricate patterns on the carpet are also said to help conceal the red and green chips that gamblers may accidentally drop.

You're Kidding, right?
What not to do when you fly...
or How to upset an airline....

As reported recently in an online travel report from news.com.au, here are some things that could get you kicked off your next flight:

1) Attempting to join the mile-high club
No surprises here I guess. A flight between Las Vegas and Seattle was diverted in 2007 after passengers spotted a couple getting intimate mid-flight. The couple was allegedly "messing around" in the seats before taking the action to the bathroom. They were escorted off the plane after arguing with flight attendants.

The Bathroom in a plane? wishful thinking I'd say......

2) Sniffing fellow passengers

Two men had to be removed from a flight between Dallas and Vegas last year due to their bizarre response to a woman's perfume.

"The passengers smelled a ladies perfume, liked it and proceeded to lean over their seats and press their noses against her neck to smell it more. It was unreal," flight attendant Bobby Laurie, from a major US airline, said.

One of those eewww moments.... I can see a perfume company coming up with an advert though...

3) Discussing which is the safest seat
A Muslim family was removed from an AirTran flight last month after passengers heard them discussing the safest place to sit and misconstrued the nature of the conversation.

The family was cleared of any wrongdoing but the airline refused to rebook them.

Isn't that a bit like saying your right but your still wrong?

4) Sky-high breast feeding

A woman filed a complaint against Delta Air Lines and Freedom Airlines in 2006 claiming she was kicked off a plane because she was breast-feeding her baby.

Emily Gillette said she was discreetly breast-feeding her 22-month-old daughter on a flight between Burlington and New York when she was approached by a flight attendant who then removed her from the plane.

The airline said she refused their request to use a blanket "to provide a little more discretion".

She must not have been cold I guess...

5) Being too sexy to fly
A Hooters employee became the centre of attention on a Southwest flight when a crew member threatened to remove her due to her "skimpy" outfit.

Wearing a tight-fitting white top, green sweater and a white denim mini-skirt, Kyla Ebbert was desperate to remain on the flight and negotiated with the crew by offering to pull her top up and skirt down, and she was allowed to stay.

I'm sorry, but a Hooters waitress pulling her top up and her skirt down, paints a whole different picture in my mind..... :o

6) Reading porn
A man was thrown off a Nationwide Airlines flight in 2005 after a row over his right to read porn on the plane. A flight attendant told passenger AC Hoffman to put the pornographic magazine away but he refused.

"Some things are just common sense - it is not a social norm to read that type of magazine with other passengers in the vicinity," a spokesman for the South African airline said.

..and they sell them in the airport lounge... why?

7) Having poor personal hygiene
A German man was chucked off a plane in Honolulu, US, back in 2006 for being excessively smelly. Fellow passengers had complained to the crew about his offensive body odour.

He tried to sue the airline but the case was thrown out.

I'm not touching this one...

8) Asking for water
A simple request for water resulted in a man being booted off a plane at La Guardia Airport, US. Mitchell Roslin said the water was for his wife, who was seven months pregnant.

The cabin had overheated after the Spirit Airlines plane experienced engine trouble. Mr Roslin was told it was "against corporate policy" to give out water before the plane took off.

He was asked to leave the plane, and his wife and two children got off with him.

Can't help but wonder if the airline employee had been pregnant at any stage. When my wife was 7 months pregnant, she got whatever she wanted.... It was more than my life was worth.

9) Having a coughing fit
A teenage girl who caught a cold during a school trip was kicked off her flight home because she was coughing.

Rachel Collier was removed from the Continental Airlines plane, which was flying between New Jersey and Honolulu, US, when the captain became concerned about her coughing fit.

No one heard of lozenges in America?

10) Flying with a cuddly crocodile
A woman found herself in hot water when she refused to move her metre-long cuddly toy crocodile, which the crew said was blocking the emergency exit. She was removed from the Ryanair flight, which was flying between Rome and Milan in 2007.

Take a real crocodile next time. I'd like to see them remove it then...

11) Wearing a rude T-shirt
A US woman was forced to leave a Southwest Airlines flight due to her "offensive" T-shirt. Featuring pictures of George Bush and friends, Lorrie Heasley's T-shirt had a slogan based on the film Meet the Fockers - with one crucial vowel altered.

Meat the Fockers doesn't make sense anyway...

12) Flying with an autistic son
A mother and her autistic boy were kicked off an American Eagle flight at Raleigh-Durnham Airport, US. The two-and-a-half-year old was upset and could not be calmed down by his mother, so the pilot deemed him "uncontrollable" and removed them.

Not touching this either..

13) Chucking a hissy fit
A man was taken off a flight after becoming enraged and slapping his wife. The passenger became angered when told he wouldn't be able to sit next to his wife.

"He started screaming and throwing items. When his wife tried to call him down, he slapped her. And it all started out with "Don't you know who I am?" Shelby, who has been a flight attendant for a major US airline since 2001, said.

He spent the night in gaol, but his wife was allowed to fly home.

We all know who he is now anyway... he's the idiot that slapped his wife.

Of course, it goes without saying that if you have a cough and dying of thirst, and are prone to enjoy wearing naughty slogans on your clothing that barely hide your cheeky bits, whilst expressing a concern for a safe seat for your big fluffy toy.... it may be advisable to go on some other form of transport.
Did you know?
Women in Uniform.....

JAPAN Airlines flight attendant uniforms are being sold to the local sex industry after becoming highly sought after by fetishists.

While several shops have created credible imitations, uniforms worn by air stewardesses have become worth their weight in gold for customers keen on role-playing fantasies.

Since announcing bankruptcy in January cabin crew face mass layoffs and an increased temptation to sell their outfits for a profit.

The airline expects a flood of uniforms on to the black market.

Yu Teramoto, the owner of a specialist costumier in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, told The Times in the UK real Japan Airlines (JAL) outfits have been virtually impossible for buyers to lay their hands on.

The airline has gone to great lengths to ensure uniforms stay off the black market, including inserting a serial number into each item of clothing, and keeping meticulous records of the exact whereabouts of garments all around the world.

This airline may also follow All Nippon Airways, who were forced to sew computer chips into its stewardess uniforms after suffering a similar problem.

This is not the first time JAL uniforms have been in the headlines.

The airline was forced to pay $2500 after uniforms worn by staff in the business-class lounge were stolen and then appeared on an internet auction site.

Mr Teramoto said one uniform from that famous haul sold for $18,000.

and finally, spare a thought for a colleague of mine in the UK.

Mike Grant, a brilliant traditional painter, told his friends that a ferrell cat crept into his house and decided to take on his moggy at 2am.

The cat and his hands contacted each other briefly and then parted very violently. Mike came off second best by all accounts, although it is rumoured that the cat got a very quick lesson in flying.

It took 30 minutes before the wounds stopped dripping blood. ( I hope your not eating - sorry)

Although calm was restored in his household, he woke in morning to find his right hand all swollen, so he decided it prudent to go and get a tetanus jab.

The Doctor took one look at his hand and an operation was booked for the following morning.

Mike relates that his left hand was sliced open in two places by the surgeon, and a big slice in his right hand.

He informed his friends that there was a massive infection in right hand and as the ferrell cats claws went deep into his knuckle joint, it had to be deep cleaned to prevent joints going stiff in years to come.

He finished up having two operations on his left hand and four on right hand.

Eight days in hospital and he was back home

He is going to physio to get the strength back in his hands. All from a cat!.

I'm sure all my readers wish him a quick recovery anyway.

I hope this edition gave you more food for thought anyway.

Until next month, take care,

Sincerley,

Shane Drew
