Sometimes things just work out.
We first met Scott Swann, PT, in 2006 when he worked for us as a per diem therapist. We wanted to hire Scott then, but he had other plans. Scott and his wife had a business that kept them traveling, but Scott continued to work at other clinics around Boulder when he was in town, and he kept learning and growing as a Physical Therapist.
I was thrilled to hear from Scott a few months ago, when he contacted me about a permanent position. Though I had no openings at the time, I promised to keep in touch and just a few weeks later, we were able to offer Scott a position at ALTA. WOW, are we happy!
Scott has an impressive resume. He is certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association, and has taken numerous continuing education classes including manipulation, Trigger Point Dry Needling and running biomechanics. Scott is also dedicated to staying current on PT literature. Most of all, he's a team player and a great fit for ALTA.
To learn more about Scott, visit our website, or better yet, schedule an appointment.
Yours in health,
Jane

Just a few Centimeters & a few Degrees for Relief
| |
Riding to Carter Lake last weekend could have been better. I'm planning to do some touring in Washington State in July, so I needed some longer training rides. I expected to feel tired after 65 miles, but not sore. However, by the second half of the ride, I felt a strong need to stand up and extend my back. Great for the
moment, but a nagging ache in the lower back returned after a few minutes back in the saddle.
I was pretty sure I knew how to fix it. Just a minor tilt of the seat forward felt like the answer. After all, I often tell patients to adjust their work chair with a slight tilt to relieve back pain. The same rule should apply to a bike seat. Or maybe not. Instead, I had Charlie Merrill, MSPT and bike fitter extraordinaire, check my bike for me. He made some minor adjustments right off the bat and immediately I felt my back muscles relax.
He adjusted my handle bars and brake levers a few degrees upward so I wasn't so stretched out on the bike, and then brought my seat a few centimeters lower and a few millimeters forward so that I could drop my heels lower and use my glutes better.
Charlie had an almost intuitive sense of where I needed to be on the bike for maximum comfort, and then he threw in a few tips on how to increase power on the bike without more effort. Fantastic! That 75-mile ride scheduled for Saturday feels less daunting.
I'll keep you posted.
