Benefits of Cycling- Cycling decreases noise and air pollution
- You get to buy a cool blinky light for your bike
- You'll sound credible as you tell your partner you need a $300 bike light
- Cycling is in the top three exercises for improving cardiovascular fitness *
- Bicycling is low impact exercise for your joints
- Wearing your bike helmet gives you a cool excuse for a bad hair day
- Cyclists have fewer job related injuries than non-cyclists
- Non-exercisers who start cycling move from the third of the population who are the least fit, to the fittest half of the population in just a few months.**
- What else will you do with those ugly shoes?
- Cycling improves balance and decreases risk of falls, especially in seniors.
-
Moderate exercise, such as cycling, can decrease stress and depression. -
A 15 minute bike ride to work 5 times a week burns the equivalent of 11 pounds of fat a year. You have an excuse to wear Lycra, and if you bike enough, you'll look good in it.
Especially on June 24th
- Riding your bike to work will justify the donut binge you will find difficult to resist at the ALTA breakfast stop
- You can find out if your seat is in fact too low, or if it's normal for your knees to graze your chin at the top of each pedal stroke.
- You'll get to see if Jane and Mary can really bake.
- If you can't unclip from your pedals before you stop, just yell as you ride up and we'll help you.
After all, preventing injuries is what ALTA is all about. *Centers for Disease Control ** Department of Transportation
