Formatted by Jenny Vazquez

eyes wide open Imagine reaching 150 people who have access to potential trafficking victims on any given day.  That was precisely the scenario when Karen Karpinski presented an educational slide show to the Maintenance Professionals of the Nashville Apartment Association in Hermitage.

The men (and a handful of women) were extremely receptive, and the hope is that, as new "abolitionists", they will be armed with information to set free those who are victims of human trafficking in apartment complexes.

Many thanks to the Association, and in particular to long-time volunteer Diana English, for encouraging many of the attendees to take a wristband and make a donation.
 -The Sequel

I had a chance to take members of Crievewood United Methodist Church on a global tour of the faces of slavery, ending in our own backyards. I think the meeting would have pleased John Wesley, the celebrated preacher and founder of the Methodist Church,
who was a life-long opponent of slavery.

They were a great attentive audience with thoughtful questions, and a few stories shared afterward of close encounters in their own lives and those dear to them.

We're always glad to share with such groups, because the more people who know, the more victims are saved.

A big thanks to Rev. Peter van Eys and Linda Whited for the invitation and warm welcome and Bill Smith for running the PowerPoint.
Ten Minute Activism

Email Channel 5 General Manager Debbie Turner, urging her to carry the new DHS public service announcements (PSAs) on human trafficking. To see the PSAs click HERE.

Be sure to mention End Slavery TN so there's a local connection. (You could even mention that
their reporter, Ben Hall, interviewed me on Open Line.)
It only takes ten minutes!

Lights, Camera, ACTION

Our Nashville volunteer group continues to learn more each month about human trafficking and to stay updated on all our work globally and locally. But the highlight of our meetings are the action groups!

Currently, group members choose to focus on one of these areas: Demand Abatement, Prevention, Colleges, Victim Support or Fund Raising. It's wonderful to watch the synergy as the brainstorming begins and the work is divided.

We'd love to have you join us. Why not mark your calendar now?  We meet the last Thursday of each month at 6:45 PM, in a rented room in a church building at 530 26th Avenue North, Nashville.

Live south of town? Check with the Franklin group leader, Bucky, for information.
A Glimpse at Global

BRAZIL:
You heard it here first, folks! ITeams US is launching an End Slavery Team next June in Belo Horizonte, in partnership with a local ministry.

The point person for that work came to Nashville several weeks ago to present her plan to me, and ITeams is now moving forward on it.

Brazil is a major source country for human trafficking and one of the worst in the world for child sex trafficking. Girls and boys are often promised a life as a model or soccer player, but instead are sold as slaves. We'll be working to prevent that!

To learn more about trafficking in Brazil, look here. To investigate the possibility of going yourself, go here.
Nashville Team on the Horizon

I am working with ITeams staff to lay the groundwork to establish a full-fledged team of missionaries, who raise their own support, here in Nashville in the next one to two years!

Dedicated abolitionists, powered by God's love for the oppressed, will come to Nashville with a commitment to move the work forward and to support, encourage and grow the current work of volunteers.

In some respects, we will all be one team, but ITeams missionaries will have a higher commitment of time. It is still early in the planning, and our first step will be recruiting a full-time team leader. I'll keep you informed as things develop.

If you think YOU might be interested in this level of involvement, let me know!

End Slavery TN brings people together to end modern day slavery and aid its victims in Tennessee and beyond.

We're part of the global work of International Teams, a Christian mission in which 1,200 people serve on multi-national teams in over 60 countries, coming together to serve the oppressed: The poor, the slave and the blind.

We'd love to have you join us. Together, let's end slavery!
