Training First Contacts
Left: Lauren Millican, President, Center: Karen, Right: Mark Darwell, Board | End Slavery TN Community Educator, Karen Karpinski, recently taught members of the Murfreesboro Apartment Managers Association how to recognize trafficking occurring within their apartment complexes.
The group was very receptive and asked great questions. One manager believes he may currently have trafficked immigrants within his complex and is investigating further! Which, of course, is a prime example of why it's important that we get the word out to groups like this.
Karen, like every one of us with End Slavery TN, is a volunteer, making a difference.

Speaking Freely
NEW Feature! Each month, look here for an insight from our Volunteer group leaders. From Bucky Elliot, leader of the Franklin End Slavery group:
"At our Franklin group meetings, we've often discussed the importance of educating, training, and conversing with city officials and other influential people in our community about human trafficking. While that is indeed vital, I wish church leaders and members were considered the experts on our own communities.
Mayors, council members, judges, and police have authority in our cities and towns, but we should have the most influence. We should know what's happening on our own streets. We should know who and where the abused and hurting people are - and how to best help them.
So let's continue to build relationships with persons of legal influence and authority, but let's also strive to build relationships with our neighbors. Let's gain our own influence and authority (we already have Kingdom authority through Jesus). Let's educate ourselves about the people we're trying to teach and reach. "

NEW Ideas for Action
We have LOTS of ideas. All of them are effective ways to End Slavery. All we need are PEOPLE like YOU to do their part! The best place for many people to engage is by joining one of our monthly volunteer groups. See sidebar for information. |
Cost of Freedom
We're all about grassroots activism and giving ourselves. But like just about everything, it does take money to carry out our task. Not for salaries. Not for offices. For real, effective action. Each month we'll highlight one way you can choose to put your money to work, or a cause to raise funds for, and WHY it's needed:
$5,000 would buy a dynamic website (so would 250 $20 gifts)
-
Education, creating the groundswell of public outrage we need to influence change-makers
-
Victim Identification, providing information that makes it more likely that those who make first contact will recognize suspicious signs
-
Inspiration to action among churches, groups and individuals
-
Prevention, through interactive and engaging teen oriented pages, informing youth about the tactics of local traffickers
