Not For Sale TN Goes to the Movies

Mike Quinones, of Birds of Prey Productions, used his creativity, considerable skill, and some of that grant money we told you about last month, to create five powerful Public Service Announcements (PSA's) on the topic of Human Trafficking. Some of our NFSTN volunteers worked in front of and behind the cameras.

Dawn did an amazing job with the actor's hair and make-up, including some unusual requests for welts, bruises, greasy hair and running mascara. Then she switched hats, literally, and played the role of a trafficker in one PSA and a musician in another. Brandon perfectly fit the role as an art connoisseur, even providing his own pipe as a prop. Ashley was oh-so-convincing as a victim, uncomplaining as she baked in the hot sun, had mud smeared on her clothing and Vaseline smeared on her face and hair. Elizabeth graciously allowed us to invade her home for the day, while Sherry and Lorre were faithful servants, offering encouragement, support, props and sandwiches, while NFSTN provided food and water for the hard-working crew.

These PSAs are vital for spreading awareness of the hidden-in-plain-sight issue of modern day slavery, the national hotline number, and rescuing victims! So look for us in a couple of months on TV. If you ask nicely, we just might give you an autograph!

NFSTN Hits the Streets

Not For Sale Tennessee will partner with Stop Child Trafficking Now in their world-wide walk set for Sept. 27th. This walk raises funds for elite Special Operative Teams who gather information about child predators, both in the US and abroad. These teams represent the best military, federal and state intelligence and investigative organizations. They track predators to build cases against them that result in convictions

NFSTN's walking team will proudly wear their orange shirts, and we will host an information booth at the event. It's a great chance to show some solidarity in the Nashville area and gather media attention on the topic of Human Trafficking right here in Music City.
To join the team, please contact the team captain, Mary at walk@notforsaletn.org. We'd love to have you join us!

Not For Sale TN was the first state spotlighted on the national Not For Sale Campaign website. It's our core of dedicated, passionate activists that make NFSTN shine and inspire others to action too - click this link to see how we fit in on the local and national levels. Scroll down to the State Spotlight to see what was highlighted on the home page in July.

Sponsor my Grades

Grade sponsorship is a great way to get your children and teens involved with fundraising. Your school age kids can ask close friends and relatives to sponsor their A's by pledging $2-$5 per A for a semester or for the entire school year. When report card or exam time rolls around, the sponsors pay for every A earned and your kids donate their pledge money to Not For Sale TN - a great motivator as well as fundraiser!

Ten Minute Activism:

Children on the Ivory Coast spend their days under the broiling sun, doing hard and dangerous work with machetes. They receive no pay, and no education or medical care. At night they are locked up in rooms and severely beaten if they try to escape, all to harvest 70% of the cacao beans used to make the chocolate bars we eat. We wouldn't beat a child for a chocolate bar; why would we pay someone else to do so?

Make the decision to buy differently. Stock up on freely made chocolate (found at Trader Joe's, Publix, and Whole Foods) and keep it in the freezer to eat the next time you have a chocolate craving. Give some for gifts, explaining the Fair Trade symbol and why it is important to you. And next time you see a manager at one of these stores, give them a shout-out and say THANKS for choosing freely made chocolate.
