US congressman visits APC International, Ltd.
On February 1, 2011, United States Congressman Glenn 'GT' Thompson and Alan Gehringer, the Executive Director of the IMC in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, visited APC International, Ltd. The purpose of Thompson's visit was to gain an understanding of the role that small and medium sized manufacturing businesses will play to bring the US economy out of the current recession and how the IMC, a public private partnership, is able to assist small and medium sized manufacturers with finding solutions to the problems they face as they begin to expand their operations in response to increasing sales.
 | APC International Vice-President Ron Staut (Far Left) and APC International President Ian Henderson (Far Right) show Alan Gehringer, IMC Executive Director; Mike Glazer, Thompson's District Representative; and Congressman Glenn Thompson, one of APC's manufacturing processes. |

Precision Positioning via Piezo Stacks
Piezo stacks are widely used for precision positioning tasks. A component can be
moved with sub-micron accuracy from one position to another. Most piezo-mechanical systems for this purpose show a special trait, nearly no alteration of a system's internal force balance occurs during piezo action. The electrical behavior of piezo-actuators is like that of a capacitor. Precision positioning is mostly done by voltage
control of piezo stacks.
Points to keep in mind in positioning applications: Position feedback is needed Quality of electronics is reflected in mechanical performance Accuracy is limited by attached mechanical transfer mechanisms Tilting of end faces can occur Max actuator strokes are only possible under constant load
For more about precision positioning refer to chapter 3 of the eBook below!
