Greetings!

Logan -- cancer survivor!
Logan
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Labor Day! We're celebrating the end of summer by holding our popular Rally for Fun class. It will be the only time the class is offered all year, so sign up now!

In my last issue, I shared my efforts in battling cancer with my Labrador, Logan. I'm thrilled to report he had his last chemo treatment, and he is officially in remission! Special thanks to the wonderful veterinarians and staff at SC Veterinary Specialists for their wonderful care.

They gave Logan a bright yellow bandanna with the practice's logo, and personalized it with his name and "cancer survivor." He looked like a happy, bouncy bumblebee! Thanks to everyone who sent us well wishes -- Logan and I appreciated them very much!

Want something fun to do with your dog? We're offering our popular Rally for Fun class beginning September 30!

Rally is a sport. You and your dog enter a ring and complete a course of signs. Each sign has an exercise on it. The team that completes the most exercises correctly with the fastest time wins.

There are two main organizations that host Rally trials -- the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Pawsitive Results offers this class as an introduction to the sport only, it will not prepare you to immediately enter a trial. You don't even have to want to compete at all in order to enjoy the class. If you enjoy having fun with your canine friend, then this is definitely the class to try! Learn about the class here.

Volunteers Needed

Want to Volunteer with Your Pet?
Prescription Paws, our local Delta Society Pet Partner Affiliate Group, will be holding the Team Training workshop Saturday, October 6. If you have an animal who is confident, social and well-trained, and you have time to share with patients, we'd love to have you join us!

Important: First, please visit the Delta Society Web site and carefully review the prerequisites to see if you and your animal qualify.

The workshop is a full day course for people only. (Delta Society does not train animals, they must already be trained). If you qualify and would like to attend the course, please download and complete the registration form

Help Prescription Paws Evaluate Therapy Dogs!

In order to qualify for the Delta Society®Pet Partner® program, teams need to pass a challenging evaluation. We simulate situations that can occur during actual visits. In order to hold the screenings, we need volunteers! Do you have some spare time you can give us?

We need folks to act as patients using health care equipment, serve in crowd scenes, etc. You will be interacting with the animals, with direction. Volunteers must be over age 18, not afraid of animals and take directions well. No experience necessary! All screenings are held in Northeast Columbia.

Saturday, November 6
Morning shift: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Afternoon shift
: 1:30 to 6:00 p.m.

If you can volunteer, please e-mail Teoti Anderson with your:

Thank you!

AKC Adds New Breeds

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is adding three breeds to its registry. Pawsitive Results has had two of the three new breeds in classes ... can you guess which two? (Keep reading for the answer.)

Cane Corso

Cane Corso

The Cane Corso is a native of Italy. He was a watchdog, and hunted wild boar. Muscular, large and athletic, Cane Corsos need a lot of exercise. The AKC has classified the Cane Corso in the Working Group.

Icelandic Sheepdog

Icelandic Sheepdog

A new addition to the Herding Group, the Icelandic Sheepdog came to Iceland with the Vikings in AD 874-930 and was used to work sheep, cattle and horses. It is thought to be one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world.

Leonberger

Leonberger

The Leonberger originated in Germany and was trained to be a family, farm and draft dog. A giant breed, the Leonberger joins the Working Group. the breed almost became extinct after World War I, but has enjoyed a comeback due to dedicated breeders.

Answer: Pawsitive Results has had several Leonbergers and Cane Corsos in class. Anyone want to bring our first Icelandic Sheepdog??
