The Buddy Program strengthens our community by guiding and inspiring youth through mentoring.

July E-Newsletter 2012 |

Dear ,
The Board of Directors, Staff and I would like to offer another round of thanks for all those who came out to support our annual fundraisers - Boogie's Bash for the Buddies and Boogie's Diner Buddy 5 Mile Run. These two events account for over 60% of our annual revenue and we are pleased to announce that we hit our targets due to your overwhelming generosity and support for these programs and our local youth. We were particularly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support during Give-to-Give after the live auction, where so many of you gave generously to the Scholarship Fund and to sponsor one or more children for a year! THANK YOU!
For those of you who were not able to join us this year, we still need your support to continue our programs. Please look for appeals in the upcoming months or feel free to donate on line at www.buddyprogram.org.
Little Buddies believe in themselves because a Big Buddy believes in them. Evaluations prove that children with mentors do better in school and at home; and at a time in their lives when even small choices can change the course of their future, youth with mentors are more likely to avoid violence and substance abuse.
Only because of your continued support can the Buddy Program continue to serve over 600 youth in our community, inspiring and empowering them to succeed.
Warmest regards,
David Houggy, Executive Director |

Inaugural Lemonade Day Aspen
The Buddy Program is proud to announce that the inaugural Lemonade Day Aspen event was tremendously successful! From Aspen through the extended Glenwood Spring area, 373 participants signed up to participate in the first ever Lemonade Day Aspen. The life lessons learned through this program touched on philanthropy, banking and goal-setting for our local youth. Kids were encouraged to save some, spend some and share some. Over 40 stands were set up around Aspen alone with different themes ranging from pink and lavender lemonade to shangri-la lemonade and Hawaiian lemonade recipes. And while the total amount raised hasn't yet been determined, there were tip jars filled with bills large and small, including a few sizable contributions from Buddy Program donors and other community members who were impressed by the event.
A national organization founded by part-time Aspen resident Michael Holthouse, Lemonade Day is a comprehensive program to help kids learn how to be entrepreneurs. Youth who registered received an official Lemonade Day backpack filled with the tools they needed to operate their lemonade stand -some youth signed up alone, others with friends, while a few local school classes paired up to set up shop. We are thrilled about the success of the first year and look forward to continuing this free, fun and educational program for our local youth.

Buddy Band - Sixtem Overload!
A big shout out to our very own Buddy Band - Sixtem Overload - comprised of six talented Little Buddies who rehearsed at the Rock & Roll Academy for a week and then performed for over 500 guests at our Bash for the Buddies! They performed covers by artists ranging from Adele to The Black Eyed Peas and had heads turning the moment the first beat was heard. They were a highlight of the night - guests were thrilled by the talent of our Little Buddies, Elmer, Christian, Elisa, Aeelyn, Sophia, and Ladibel! The Buddy Program is very proud of these young stars for their commitment to the Buddy Band Camp and very grateful to their parents and Big Buddies for their support throughout this amazing experience. Lastly, THANK YOU to Russell Cattaneo, Rock & Roll Academy Director, for his enthusiasm and generosity!
