Our Children, Our Future
As we celebrate the beautiful change of the seasons, please take a moment to reflect upon a time, as a child, when you were faced with a difficult decision and sought the help, extra-guidance, and/or support of someone to help you with that decision. Now think about what the outcome might have been without that someone, a mentor, there to guide you in a positive direction. Similarly, our volunteer mentors are there for our participating youth when they need it most - to offer advice and to listen. In 2010, the Buddy Program will serve over 450 youth from Aspen all the way to Parachute - 62% more than in 2005! Today, the Buddy Program is asking you to donate $15 or more to our fall fundraising campaign - Our Children, Our Future. Only with your help can we continue to screen and train volunteer mentors and offer case management, therapeutic counseling, life-enriching activities, and extra-curricular and educational scholarships to our participating youth. Please click here to donate directly online or call Kelly Voss (970.920.2130).
In celebration of YOUR support,
Diane Anderson, Board of Directors President Catherine Anne Provine, Executive Director |

"Each week, the most dedicated Big Buddy volunteers show up diligently, greeted by a gigantic bear hug or a high five...All of the statistics in the world can't prove to anyone how important the School-based Program is to our students until you see these matches together. Having a Buddy often provides the only positive thing they can name about school, which may otherwise be a struggle for them, academically or socially." ~ Molly Kridel, Counselor, Aspen Middle School |

Buddy Program Wait-list
Name: Ricardo "Richie" G. Age: 13 Favorite things to do: Be outside, play basketball, soccer, football, and baseball When I grow up: "I want to be the CEO of a business." I want a Buddy because: "I would like to do activities and have fun with them."
Despite the recent surge in volunteers, the Buddy Program still needs more Big Buddies for youth on the wait-list from Aspen to El Jebel, especially in the mid-valley area. As school starts and teachers and counselors recognize the needs that youth have, the number of referrals to our programs are growing. Currently, there are 35 youth on the wait-list. Call 970.927.1001 today to find out how you can guide and inspire a young person in your community. |

"Bring Your Buddy To Work" Month
During the month of August, the Buddy Program encouraged Big Buddies to bring their Little Buddies to their workplace (if appropriate) so they could shadow them as they did their job. Five Buddy Pairs took part in this educational activity, and children had the chance to participate in occupations that ranged from spending time in a professional kitchen to learning the ins and outs of being a paragliding guide on Aspen Mountain! A big THANK YOU to the participating Big Buddies for giving their Little Buddies a unique and up-close look at the working world!
