Planning for the ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT

As we look forward to the final few months of the school year, many students focus their attention on the work associated with projects, papers and final exams. Understandably caught up in the year end push, many families overlook planning for the following school year. Planning ahead for the start of next school year is particularly important for students set to take the ISEE, SSAT or SHSAT.

These standardized exams - used for admission to highly selective private and specialized schools - are challenging and often require dedicated preparation. Families with the foresight to plan ahead in the spring are able to limit anxiety and lay the foundation for success on the ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT.

Private Prep Curriculum Development for the ISEE, SSAT & SHSAT

With a lack of test preparation resources available to the public, Private Prep has been developing a fresh curriculum to help students prepare for the ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT. Assistant Director Zack Gilman, a valued member of the Private prep family for the past five years, is leading this initiative which includes:

  • Test taking strategies and systems specifically for the ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT
  • Skill-based worksheets
  • Full-length practice tests

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about these exams, please do not hesitate to forward this email or contact us.

Blog: Failure's Role in Education

Failure is a natural part of the learning process and should be embraced from this prospective. It provides an opportunity for the willing student to learn and address their mistakes in a concrete manner. Further, learning how to cope with and overcome missteps is a key component in the maturation of students. Certainly, repeated failure, especially for the same reason, is not healthy and indicative of a break down in the learning process. And here in lies the important role of educators when it comes to learning from failure - helping students to understand what went wrong and recognize ways of better addressing similar problems in the future.
