Scott Levenson Joins Private Prep as Executive Director
Scott LevensonI am excited to announce the addition of Scott Levenson as Executive Director of Private Prep. Scott is a passionate entrepreneur and will be behind many of the changes focused on growing the Private Prep brand in the New York metro area. He thinks big and brings fresh ideas to Private Prep.

Scott and I have known each other for over 8 years and often talked about building a business together. In addition to focusing on the continued growth of Private Prep, Scott will be tutoring accounting, economics and corporate finance.

"Having used tutors throughout middle and high school myself, I am a strong believer in the value of private tutoring, especially when the tutors can connect with their students. Steve has done a terrific job building Private Prep's reputation as a high quality tutoring service with passionate educators that seek to relate to their students on a personal and academic level. I think that tutoring philosophy is dead on and makes the opportunities for Private Prep to grow very exciting," says Scott about joining the Private Prep team.

Scott recently graduated with honors from the two-year MBA program at Emory University. He concentrated his graduate studies on marketing and entrepreneurship. Prior to going back to school, Scott worked for four years in finance at MCG Capital, headquartered in Arlington, VA. While living in Washington, DC Scott volunteered at the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund for two years as a mentor to inner city High School seniors as they navigated the college application process.

Scott is originally from Potomac, Maryland. He and his wife, Tamara (a Fieldston alum), moved to New York's Upper West Side this past summer.

I am eager to take advantage of the opportunities for Private Prep's continued growth and am confident that Scott will be a key in helping make Private Prep a household name throughout the NY metro area.

winter breakWays to Stay Sharp Over Winter Break
Winter Break is here! Private Prep recognizes that many of our students are in a highly competitive and stressful academic environment. Winter Break is a great time for our students to relax and recharge their batteries. That being said, it is important to retain as much as possible from the first months of the school year and not let it all melt away over the break.

Cumulative subjects, such as languages and mathematics, are particularly important to review and practice. Here are a few tips Private Prep recommends to stay sharp during the time off.
  • If you are away in a foreign country and have the chance to practice a new language, seek out opportunities to practice with native speakers. Native speakers typically appreciate the effort to speak their language, so don't worry about being embarrassed by your limited vocabulary.
  • Take a practice SAT, ACT, SHSAT or ISEE while on a long flight instead of watching a bad movie or trying to annoy a sibling. It's important to keep the momentum you had preparing for these standardized tests prior to the break.
  • Review tests and quizzes so you are better prepared for midterms and finals. If you have a question about one of your past tests, get in touch with your tutor. They will be more than happy to help.
  • Use real life examples to test your math and science skills. On a chair lift, try to figure out the angle of the ski slope below. While relaxing at the beach, think about what forces cause waves to form in the ocean.
  • If you know about a big project or paper coming up, do a little work to get ahead. In particular, get started with some of the background research to become more familiar with your subject.
  • We are sure you've heard this before, but it really is important: Read a book for fun. Reading improves your vocabulary and is one of the best ways to become a better writer.
Have fun over Winter Break! Private Prep looks forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready to learn in January.

I hope everybody has a happy and healthy new year. Happy Holidays.

All the best,

Steve Feldman

Winter Break Tips
Ifeoma Lands Scholarship
Quick Links
Congrats Ifeoma!
Another Private Prep student recently got great news when Ifeoma was awarded the full tuition Posse Scholarship at DePauw University. The Posse Scholarship Foundation is an American nonprofit organization that identifies, recruits, and trains student leaders from public high schools to form multicultural teams called "Posses" of 10 to 12 Posse Scholars.

Ifeoma, a senior at the Bronx High School for Medical Science, worked with Steve Feldman and Zack Gilman in preparation for the SATs. "I am so excited and I know that if my SAT scores had not improved, I would not have had chance to be one of the finalists."

Private Prep is proud of all of Ifeoma's hard work and knows that she is well deserving of such a scholarship. We wanted to wish Ifeoma best of luck at DePauw and congratulations on her accomplishment.
