Private Prep: A Growing Presence in NYC
In the summer of 2006, I left my job at UBS to fulfill my dream of starting a business in the field of education. Since then, Private Prep has grown into a boutique tutoring company with over a dozen highly qualified tutors. Our expertise now includes standardized test prep, a full range of academic subjects and college essay assistance. Private Prep has developed relationships with many of New York City's top private and public schools. This growth was made possible by your referrals to friends, family and classmates. I appreciate your help in spreading the word about Private Prep.

At Private Prep, we are passionate about offering fun and effective tutoring that motivates students to fulfill their full scholastic potential. When recruiting tutors, I look for this same passion and an ability to connect on a personal level with students. Private Prep's tutoring philosophy is rooted in the notion that each tutor is personally invested in their student's success.

Looking forward, I hope to grow Private Prep's presence in the NYC education community. Our goal is to bring Private Prep's successful tutoring approach to more and more students throughout the New York metro area. In order to do so, Private Prep will be increasing its communication efforts. Be on the lookout for the Private Prep monthly newsletter, free tutoring sessions at charity events, school newsletter/newspaper advertising and other communication outlets that will help increase recognition of Private Prep's personal approach to tutoring.

Thank you again for all of the support thus far. I am excited about the future prospect for Private Prep and look forward to continuing to make tutoring Fun and Effective!

New SAT Score Choice Increases Flexibility
The College Board recently announced a new score reporting option for the SATs called Score Choice. According to the College Board press release, "this new policy will give students the option to choose the SAT scores by sitting (test date) and SAT Subject Test scores by individual test that they send to colleges, at no additional cost. This will allow students to put their best foot forward on test day by giving them more flexibility and control over their scores." Score Choice will not affect current high school seniors, but the new policy will impact all classes for the foreseeable future starting with current high school juniors. We believe the College Board launched Score Choice to better compete with the ACT which already has a similar policy and to help students ease test anxiety.

The announcement of Score Choice has already begun to cause a stir throughout the field of education. Some test prep companies are recommending that students solely focus on one section of the SAT each time they take the test. Some even encourage students to randomly fill in the answers for the two sections they are not "focused" on for a particular test. Private Prep does not advocate such a strategy.

After reaching out to contacts in college admissions, there is some uncertainty about how they will view scores. Some top tier schools have already expressed their disapproval of the new policy. In general, Private Prep encourages juniors to take the SAT for the first time in either January or March and everyone should take the test at least twice. We continue to stress the importance of being well prepared for any test and students should do their best on all three sections.

Way to go Will!
It takes a lot of hard work and some natural ability to ace the SATs. Of course a little help from Private Prep never hurt either. So Congrats to Will (pictured below) for following up his 800 on the Math Level 2 SAT Subject Test last Spring with an 800 on the Math section of the October SAT. We know Will has a bright future and are thrilled that Private Prep could help Will strive to reach his full academic potential.
