Greetings!
President

What an amazing array of arts and culture we have had the past month with ArtSSpring, from the BOWS ArtSS BASH, to concerts, art gallery openings,  cooking demonstrations, theatrical and singing performances, and just event after exciting event. I hope you were able to attend everything and share the beauty of our city.

Art Sandy Springs could not do anything without the support of our members and our amazing community leaders. In this issue we thank them all by name. Please take a look at this list and be sure to support these Sandy Springs businesses and organizations. We are fortunate to have them in our community and I applaud their commitment to Sandy Springs.

In this issue we have a recap of ArtSSpring as well as exciting news about the progress of the Playable Art Park which is on schedule to be unveiled in the fall.

Also in this issue we say goodbye to our incredible Executive Board and extend a warm welcome our new Board. The baton will officially be passed on June 1, so a heartfelt welcome to our new leaders and thank you to our current Board for their tireless and diligent efforts this past year. We have increased our membership and our fundraising dollars, and the size and scale of our programs. Let's continue this trend!

Summer is a time to relax a bit, and I hope you will commit to join with your fellow Sandy Springers and take advantage of the exciting things going on around you! A great first step in getting involved is joining Art Sandy Springs and telling your friends to join in the fun too. We need you!

Enjoy your summer, safe travels, and I look forward to seeing you around our beautiful town--

Cheri Morris
President, Art Sandy Springs

PlayableBehind the Scenes: Playable Art Park!

As we have previously reported, Sandy Springs will soon have a world-class artistic attraction with The Playable Art Park at the Abernathy Greenway. Maquettes - scale models - for the park's six sculptures selected in the international competition have been on display at the Abernathy Arts Center, and some of these will soon be on view at the Sandy Springs Library.

All of the artists will be spending the summer and early fall fabricating their works. In late fall, the sculptures will be delivered to the park and assembled there.

Alexis Gregg and Tanner Coleman have begun work on "Dragonfly" (see below pictures of the progress!) after completing the installation of a commission at the Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan. Unlike the other five works, "Dragonfly", the 50-ft long brick playscape, will be constructed on site along Abernathy Road where passers-by can watch progress live beginning July 1!

According to Playable Art Park Steering Committee chair and Executive Director of the Sandy Springs Conservancy Linda Bain, "Alexis and Tanner plan to document their progress through video and time-lapse photography. We will share this information as soon as it is available."

Above is a sketch of the dragonfly as it will appear when completed.

SupportsponsorsSupport our Sponsors-- They Make Our Community Shine!

We are so fortunate to have the support of the following businesses and organizations in Sandy Springs. Please take the time to send these entities a personal thank you for all they are doing for ArtSS and for our City. We could do nothing without their support!

-- Northside Hospital and the Sandy Springs Conservancy-- This dynamic duo has taken the Sandy Springs Playable Art Park on Abernathy Road from a dream to a reality, and the five phenomenal sculptures are in the process of being built. By the end of the year these sculptures will be at their new home and enjoyed by community children of all ages!

-- Home Depot-- this company supports our community in so many ways, and we are especially thankful for the beautiful flowers and greenery and garden tools that Home Depot donated to us to keep our planters on Roswell Road looking so beautiful!

-- The CIty of Sandy Springs continues to provide a benchmark to other municipalities and its dedication to art and culture in our city is what sets us apart! From putting up green bows in support of ArtSSpring to monetarily supporting the well loved talent show Showstoppers, we thank the City of Sandy Springs!

-- Art Sandy Springs thanks Sandy Springs Society and Fulton County Arts & Culture for their support and funding of Give the Music Back, the program to put music back into our schools. This program touched the lives of Sandy Springs students, and we are grateful.

-- Finally, many thanks to the sponsors of the Art Sandy Springs BOWS ArtSS BASH, ArtSS' only fundraising event of the year! With their help, we were able to raise funds which directly benefit our Art in the Open initiative, to put scupltures in the public realm of our city. Below is a list of these amazing supporters.

Bye-Bye Bows!

We know, we know! The green bows add so much delight and color to our mailboxes and our City, but... the time has come to put them away. We will have them ready for you to display at next year's ArtSSpring celebration!

Also, please take and safely dispose of any ArtSSpring yard signs you may see around the City. We appreciate your help with this!
