Junior 1 "Winter Camp" - Message from Mrs. Thorvaldsen:

We are busily preparing our activities for the 'J1 Winter Camp' which will be during the J2-Grade 10 Ski Trip.  We've chosen to work along the theme of Myths and Legends which parallels the Art Unit that the boys and girls are working on.

In the mornings Julie and I will help the students to write and create their own puppet shows as a Language Arts activity.  We will also have the students use 2 and 3 dimensional shapes to build castles for the Math component.  At the end of the week, the students have been invited to Doc's house for a 'Tea Party'.

Mrs. Mattock has sent an email to you regarding the activities that she and Mrs. MacLeod will be leading in the afternoons.  Please let me know if you have not yet received this.

Please remember the following:

Classes will begin at 9:00am and end at 4:00pm.

Snacks will be provided.

Lunch will not be provided.

There will be NO supervision for students before 8:30am.

There will be NO supervision for students after 4:30pm.

Formal Registration Forms:
The formal 2010-2011 registration forms will be mailed  this Wednesday.  They are due back to the school on Monday, March 1.

Non- Uniform Day, Thursday, February 18:  Message from the Junior 4 Class
The Junior 4 class is writing to you today asking for support from you and your family on our upcoming non-uniform day charity drive in the month of February.

Our class decided to support the charity Pennies for Patients, a program that is part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) which helps fund research to help develop better, less invasive treatments in their quest to find permanent cures for these cancers.  Funding research such as this has dramatically increased the survival rates of people stricken with blood-related cancers, yet leukemia remains the number one disease-killer of children under 19 and alarmingly the incidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in adults has doubled since 1973.  Each $200 that we can raise for this group will fund one day of further research towards these treatments and ultimately a cure.

The school fundraising program for the LLSC is unique as it offers a school-wide challenge as part of the fundraising program with prizes being awarded to the top earning classes in the school.  We are asking for your support as students will be working to earn extra money,  above the $3.00 required for the non-uniform days, by performing household chores/tasks.

When a student completes a task that you feel has "earned" your son/daughter some extra money to donate, please write us a little note that tells us what they did.  These tasks will be posted in the Dining Room to show what students have done to raise money for LLSC.  There will also be a chart showing which classes are raising the most money from Feb. 1st to Feb. 18th (which is the date of our non-uniform day).  The final class totals will be recorded on Feb. 18th with the winning classes announced on Friday, Feb. 19th.

We would like to thank you in advance for participating in this fundraiser and hope that we see the cure in our lifetime.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

The J4 Class.

Term 2 Interim Report: and Classroom Visit
The next Interim Report will be sent home on Friday, February 19.

Also, parents are reminded that the full school parent classroom visit is on the same day from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.  We hope to see as many parents as possible!  Thank you.
Junior 3, 4 and 5 Parents, Students and Teachers - Ottawa Sens Hockey Game:
I hope this message finds you all enjoying the "warmer" weather and dealing with the excitement for the upcoming ski-trip (hard to believe that it's here already).
In an effort to plan a night where the students, parents and staff can all get together for a relaxed, informal night away from the school, my colleagues and I were hoping to propose a night out as a group to take in an Ottawa Senators game.  This would be an opportunity for everyone to have a fun night with their current teacher as well as some teachers that they may have in the future, not to mention any of their friends who may be attending the game as well.
Our current plan is to purchase a block of tickets in the 300 section where the prices are $35 a ticket (parents would have to accompany their children on this night).  We are looking at the April 1st game against the Carolina Hurricanes, a 7pm start time on a Thursday night.  If there was enough interest, we could also reserve a section at Frank Finnigan`s restaurant for a group before the game for a quick bite.
At this time, we are hoping to get an idea on numbers so we can purchase tickets before they are all sold out.  We are asking if you could you please respond to this e-mail and indicate if you are interested in attending the game and if you would like to meet up at the restaurant before that. We would be making arrangements based on the response that we get by Friday, Feb. 5th, so please let us know as soon as possible so no one misses out on this entertaining night.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at this e-mail address or by phone at 613-839-2175 ext. 314
