Welcome Back!
Happy New Year!   It's nice to have everyone back for a busy second term!

The students have already started to prepare for the Science Fair that will take place on February 26.   Before that, they get to enjoy some fun on the slopes during the ski trip to Stoneham, Quebec from February 8 - 11.  Several of our students are leaving for the 2nd part of our cultural exchange with the AIM school in Monterrey, Mexico on February 27 for 10 days.    Added to that, parents can expect to receive another set of Interim Reports and a Parent Classroom Visit.

This term is very busy and goes by quickly.  Good luck to everyone and let's have a great term.

Update on "Let's Score Some Boards" Campaign:
I am pleased to report that we have raised $6000 toward replacing the school hockey boards!  The Christmas Craft sale profits were $3000 and the Holiday Fundraising Campaign profits were also $3000.   Only $2000 to go in order to reach our goal!  Thank you to everyone for your support.
Venta Students Win Big at the Louis Riel Classic Track and Field Meet:
The Venta "Vipers" Track and Field team did very well at the Louis Riel Classic held in December.   Our students competed against 250 students from over 18 high schools across the city.  We came home with 15 medals and Justice Iris set an event record for the 150 meter dash!

The full results can be viewed  at:

Congratulations!
Ski Trip to Stoneham, Quebec:

Victory In Europe Trip - Deadline to Register, January 18:
If any student (J4 and up) or parent is interested in joining us on the Victory in Europe trip in early May, please be aware that applications have to be made before January 18th.

This is a wonderful educational experience for students and for adults too.  We will be spending several days in Paris touring the city including Versailles, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and a night time boat trip on the Seine River.  We then travel to Normandy to visit the beaches where our Canadian troops came ashore on D-Day, and then we follow the path of the army back through France.  We continue our visit with trips to WWI memorials at Vimy Ridge and at Beaumont Hammel where the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was decimated on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.  The piece de resistance of the trip is our visit to Holland for the 65th Anniversary of the end of WWII when the Canadian soldiers fought to free the Dutch people.  There are many ceremonies in which the students will have a major role, and it is rumoured that the Dutch Royal Family and our own Queen will be present.

At the moment we have 23 people enrolled, including several staff chaperones, but we would love to take as many of our older students as possible as this is going to be a trip that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

To enroll to to www.eftours.ca and press enroll.  Enter our tour number which is 747932 and fill in the application form. Our tour orgnizer at EF is Mary Erskine.  Her number is 1 800-387-1460. She will be happy to help you if you have any questions.  I am also available to help, either by e-mail at  amoore@ventapreparatoryschool.com or by phone at 613 839-2175 ext. 232.

The formal registration packages will be mailed home at the beginning of February and are due back to the school, along with the appropriate fee payment (ie. deposit and post-dated cheques) on March 1, 2010.

If you have any questions about re-enrollment or the forms, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Open House - January 20, 7:00 p.m.

We are holding an Open House for prospective families on Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Please feel free to invite anyone you know who has expressed an interest in learning more about our school.

I am also looking for 2 parent volunteers to represent the school at the Open House.  Often times prospective parents appreciate having the opportunity to speak to a current parent.  If you are willing and able to help out, please contact me as soon as possible.  Thanks again.
