| Update for Next Two Weeks: |
| Dear Parents:
Our friends from Mexico arrive this evening, which means I will be unavailable to send an update next week. The following week is a "short" week, so this update will cover everything going on at the school for the next two weeks.

| Non-Uniform Day - Thursday, October 8: |
| In addition to not having to wear a school uniform, we would like all students to come to school wearing the craziest hat they can find or make! Thursday, October 8 is "Crazy Hat Day" at Venta, so dig deep in your closet and use your imagination! | |

| Venta students run in 2nd Annual "Turkey Trot": |
|
On Thursday, October 8 certain students in J5 - Gd. 10 have volunteered to run in the Turkey Trot held in Kemptville. The course is 5 km long and features open field, dirt roads and single track routes through the Ferguson Forest Center.
The winners of each division will receive a frozen turkey! Good Luck! |
| Parent-Classroom Visit - Friday, October 9: |
| As indicated earlier the Parent-Classroom visit have been moved to next Friday, October 9 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. All parents of day students and 5 day -a-week boarding students are encouraged to visit their child's classroom to review what has been done so far this year. Our boarding staff will stand in for parents of our full time boarders.
We hold three Parent-Classroom visits a year. These visits provide parents with the opportunity to review school work and participate in a student-led conference. |
| Friday, October 9 - Early Dismissal |
| ALL students are dismissed at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9 for the long week-end. Boarders return the evening of Tuesday, October 13 and classes resume at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14. Happy Thanksgiving!! |
| Friday, October 16: Photo Re-Take Day, Olympic Day |
|
We expect the proofs from the first photo day to arrive any time. Please remember that the re-takes are on Friday, October 16. Also the Grade 9 and 10 individual and class photos will be taken, in addition to the boarding photo,staff photo and the Grade 8 class photo.
Students are reminded to wear their #1 dress, even though that afternoon will be Intramural Olympics. Everyone can change into their sports uniform after the pictures are taken.

| Interim Report #1 - Friday, October 16 |

The school issues three interim reports a year. The reports are designed to give parents a brief overview of their child's progress in terms of learning skills. The fist report will be mailed to parents on Friday, October 16. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's report, please contact Shaun Quinn. (ext. 224) |
| Early Dismissal during Parent-Teacher Interviews : October 19- 28th |
| Please note that all day students are dismissed at 4:15 p.m. during the Parent-Teacher interviews. If you are unable to pick your child up at 4:15, there will be supervision as per usual until 5:30 p.m.
Also, there are still families who have NOT signed up for their interview. The sign-up sheets can be found in the school office; otherwise please contact Shaun Quinn (ext. 224). |

As of today, we have $416 in sales from the magazine campaign.
It is not too late to place your order! If you prefer to order via catalogue, the deadline to return the forms to the teachers is Friday, October 23.
If you want to order on-line you can visit the school's web-site and click on the QSP logo. Our group number is 11690. There is no deadline for on-line orders. |
| 2011 Trip to Costa Rica: |

Spend the 2011 March Break in the tropics visiting hot springs, an active volcano, zip-lining through lush rainforests and white water rafting down the Saraiqui in Costa Rica!
Interested?!?! Join us on an EF educational tour to Costa Rica, March 11th to the 23rd, 2011 (dates to be confirmed). This trip is open to any current Junior 5 students up to and including current grade 10 students. This trip is also open to parents and past graduating students. Space is limited!! Want Information? At the October 9th parent/classroom visit, there will be a booth set up in the dining room with some basic information. If you are interested, please sign up then. Afterwards, I will forward to you any other information when it becomes available. On October 14th, there will be a second meeting about this tour just for students.
