2009-2010 Parent Committee:

The Parent Fundraising Committee would like to welcome our new families to the school!

The primary purpose of the Committee is to enhance the quality of life for Venta students.

Last year they raised just over $20,000 in order to purchase 20 state of the art computers and a firewall.  In addition they were able to buy most of the items on the teachers' wish list, including a laminating machine, tumbling mats, broomball and, goalie sticks and many other items.

This year the primary objective is to raise enough money to replace the school hockey boards.

The first meeting is Tuesday, September 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the teachers' lounge.  We are always looking for new volunteers - so please feel free to join us!

For your information the Committee meets once a month.  We hope to see you at the meeting tomorrow!

Parent/Staff Wine and Cheese, Friday, Sept. 18:
A reminder that the Parent/Staff Wine and Cheese will take place this Friday at the home of Dr. Sidlauskas from 4:15  - 6:00 p.m.  Her house is on the left hand side, across from the pool as you are driving up the hill.

This event is intended to get to know one another in a social context and is for adults only.  There will be yard supervision during  the event.

We hope to see you there!
Parent-Teacher Interviews Sign-Up at Wine and Cheese:
Our Parent-Teacher Interviews will start the week of October 19.  However, parents can sign up at the Wine and Cheese on Friday.  Interview slots will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parents of full time boarders will participate in a conference call.

For those new to the school, each family receives a 30 minute interview with all of their child's teachers present, in addition to the Principal and both Vice-Principals.

If you are unable to sign up at the Wine and Cheese, Shaun Quinn will contact you to book your interview.
Non-Uniform Day - Thursday, September 17:
As mentioned in the last update, this Thursday is our first Non-Uniform Day.  The students can wear casual clothes to school and should remember to bring their $3 donation.
Venta Running Club:
Mr. Spratt has started the Venta Running Club and their first run was at lunch time today.

The club is open to all students in Junior 5 (Grade 7) to Grade 10. The goal of the club is to promote health and well-being, while accomplishing goals in terms of physical fitness.

This fall, members of the club will run in the NCSSAA (National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association) Cross Country Meet on October 20.   If successful, they can advance to the NCSSAA championships and then on to the Ontario Federation of School Athletics Associations (OFSAA) championship.

The club will run during lunch hour on Monday and Wednesday's.  In the spring, training will resume so that the members can participate in the Diefenbooker Classic and the ING Race Weekend.

If you have any questions about the club, please contact Mike Spratt. (ext.307) or mspratt@ventapreparatoryschool.com
Venta is  Accepted by the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association:
The NCSSAA has accepted Venta into their organization so that we can compete in their city-wide cross country race as well as track and field in the spring.

We are very excited about this as it will give our kids an opportunity to compete against kids their age instead of the general public!
Parent Volunteers Needed for September 25:
As you are aware from my e-mail this morning, the staff are participating in a PD day on Friday, September 25.

This is a reminder that we are looking for Parent Volunteers to help supervise the children while on a field trip to the Carp Fair.   If you are available, please contact Shaun Quinn at ext. 224 or squinn@ventapreparatoryschool.com

Thank you!
