It's a frightening time for children as our leaders debate how to cut spending. Both on the national scene and in New York State, children may be getting the short end of the stick. Numerous articles have been tracking the goings-on; we've linked to a few of them below for your review. And read my blog on grandparents vs. foster care. There is lots of scary talk out there. We all need to be vigilant. -- Dana Friedman, Ed.D., President, The Early Years Institute

| "Screen-Free Week" Guide is now online |
|
EYI 's "Screen-Free Alternatives Guide" is online and growing, and it'll be a valuable reference for families and child care providers who participate in Screen-Free Week April 18-24. EYI has joined CA Technologies, the Fair Media Council, and hundreds of organizations, libraries, child care centers and pediatricians to encourage families to balance their use of electronic entertainment with play and creative learning. Parents sign a pledge while merchants and community organizations provide alternative activities for free or at discounted prices. You may download pledge forms, flyers and applications to be part of Screen-Free Week, all of which are also available in Spanish. And send us your organization's events so we may add them to the Screen-Free Alternatives Guide! |
