"10 THINGS THAT CAN KILL YOUR TODDLER THIS AFTERNOON." This imagined headline comes from "America's Worst Mom," Lenore Skenazy, author of Free Range Kids, who believes our fears about child safety are fed by the media. "Myths foisted upon us by TV and 'experts' show us how much they know and we don't," she says. Lenore's point is emphasized in a survey done by Christie Barnes, author of The Paranoid Parents Guide. "Five Worries Parents Should Drop" tells us that parents' top fears: kidnapping, school snipers, terrorists, strangers, and drugs are less likely to hurt or kill our kids than car accidents, homocide by a known assailant, abuse, suicide, and drowning. Don't miss Lenore's keynote luncheon speech at our December 3rd conference. Her comical presentation and thoughtful ideology is worth the price of admission. |
