| EDI project launched in Westbury |

EYI, in collaboration with UCLA and the United Way of America, is bringing the Early Development Instrument (EDI) to Long Island. Currently being used in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Long Island is one of 19 pilot sites in the U.S. to assess school readiness and identify areas of need. Funded by the United Way of Long Island, the Westbury School District has been selected as the inaugural test site and the launch of the EDI Leadership Group of Westbury took place in March. | EYI trains outdoor classroom architects |

Long Island Nature Collaborative for Kids Kids (LINCK) held a two-day workshop in February, Designing Outdoor Nature Classrooms for Children, for landscape architects and designers. Presented by the Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, attendees learned about field-tested, research-based design principles for creating engaging outdoor learning spaces. They'll work with LINCK on future outdoor classrooms all over Long Island. Read more about outdoor classrooms.

Dana Friedman's February 14th op-ed article in Newsday suggested that 8-18 year olds are averaging 11 hours a day in front of a screen because parents and caregivers are exposing children to screen-based entertainment from the time they come home from the maternity ward. Read Dana's article here.
