MedTech Features BNE Medical Device Efforts

Welcome back to another edition of BNE's Good News Weekly!

Last Friday I informed everybody about our region's collaborative efforts at the upcoming BIO International conference in Boston and our plans to promote our medical device attraction initiative. Our plans got a welcome boost from our partners at MedTech with the great feature they gave us in their BIO/MED Impact e-newsletter recently.

The hub of the bioscience and medical technology industry in Upstate New York, MedTech is a very active association of pharmaceutical, biotech and medical technology companies, suppliers and service providers, and research universities. Their membership is the perfect audience for our life science and medical device efforts. We worked with MedTech recently on the very successful 2012 Venture Forum hosted in our region last month, and we appreciate their coverage and promotion of our economic development attraction efforts.

UB Partners Day Highlights Impact of Teamwork

The flagship research institution of the SUNY system, the University at Buffalo is a great partner and a great asset in BNE's economic development efforts. The partnerships the university engages in embrace innovation, encourage collaboration, promote commercialization and revitalize the Buffalo Niagara economy through new investment and job creation.

The UB Partners day 2012 that was celebrated this week recognized companies, organizations and individuals whose partnerships with UB benefitted the Buffalo Niagara region and New York State. BNE Board member Dr. Alexander Cartwright, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at the university presided over a program that honored Lt. Governor Robert Duffy for his leadership as chair of New York State's Regional Economic Development Councils. Associate Professor of Chemistry and co-founder of Kinex Pharmaceuticals, David Hangauer, received the faculty entrepreneur award and Kaleida Health was recognized with the vital partner award for the recently completed Gates Vascular Institute and the Clinical and Translational Research Center.

Congratulations to Dr. Cartwright, UB and all of the very deserving award recipients.
