Welcome back to another edition of BNE's Good News Weekly!  Before heading out this weekend, go to BNE's Facebook page and check out the very cool before and after photos of the outstanding transformation that has occurred at the new Hotel at the Lafayette.  Congratulations Rocco Termini on the great job bringing this landmark back to life!
STAMP Site in Genesee County Gets $2 Million in State Funds

The Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) received some very good news this week from New York State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos.  The two senators joined GCEDC and Genesee County officials at a ceremony announcing $2 million in state infrastructure funding for the WNY Science, Technology, Advanced Manufacturing Park (STAMP).  The monies will be used to further land acquisition, design and construction of roadways and electrical and water infrastructure.

Located in the Town of Alabama, STAMP is a 1,300 acre mega-site dedicated to advanced manufacturing.  The site is within the New York Power Authority's low cost hydropower zone, and is ideally situated to attract a skilled workforce from two major metropolitan areas, Buffalo and Rochester.  With previous support from the New York State Senate, the Genesee County Legislature and the GCEDC, STAMP is an ideal example of public entities working in concert to prepare the necessary, high quality product for marketing and economic development groups like the BNE to promote outside the region.

Congratulations to Majority Leaders Skelos, Senator Ranzenhofer, County Legislature Chairwoman Mary Pat Hancock and GCEDC president & CEO Steve Hyde on Thursday's great announcement.

Also, if you're near a radio tonight, you can hear a great interview with Steve Hyde discussing the successes of the GCEDC and partner organizations like the BNE in advancing economic development throughout the region.  Steve's Capitol Pressroom interview from earlier today with correspondent Susan Arbetter can be heard tonight on WBFO-88.7 FM in Buffalo at 8:00 p.m. and on WWXI 1370-AM in Rochester at 10:00 p.m.

BNE to Join Local Life Sciences Team at BIO Convention

Buffalo Niagara's life sciences community will be well represented at this year's BIO International conference and exposition being held in Boston June 18th-21st.  In addition to the BNE our region will be represented by three of our core life sciences partners - the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), the UB Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & the Life Sciences (CoE), and Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).  The largest conference of its kind in the world, BIO International offers BNE and our life sciences partners an excellent opportunity to market our region, promote our successes and actively seek mutually beneficial partnerships.

There will be a lot of progress for our region to tout at BIO this year.  The opening of the Gates Vascular Institute and the UB Clinical and Translational Research Center will send a tremendous message about the commitment of our community to building the state of the art facilities necessary to attract top talent and companies.  The commitment of resources enabling the relocation of the University at Buffalo Medical School downtown to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus continues the momentum generated by the UB/Gates facility.  Our business development staff is excited to promote our medical device initiative and the new brochure designed to support that effort.

BIO in Boston this year should be a great show as our region heads into it with a lot of good news that should generate a lot of attention.

Buffalo Niagara ::
Where Life Works

Tell Us How Buffalo Niagara Works for You

1- We ski in the Winter.

2- We bike from Amherst to the waterfront in the Spring & Fall.

3- We have a Summer Home in Canada just over the Peace Bridge where we swim, sail, golf, bike, play tennis and visit all of the Summer Festivals & Communities.
4- Buffalo has great theatre where we hold season tickets to two different theatre groups and certainly enjoy all of the other arts that are available.

5- When we have time we pick up tickets for the Bills or Sabres.

6- The restaurants in Buffalo are equal to the best in any City we have been to in the US or Europe.

7- Try to attend as many of the festivals in the city as we
possibly can, the Allentown, Taste of Buffalo, Italian Festival, Garden Walk... and most everything is 15 minutes away."
