Welcome back to another edition of BNE's Good News Weekly!
"Canadian Connections" Strengthens Economic Development Opportunities

The Buffalo Niagara Enterprise joined with our investors at Phillips Lytle LLP and our colleagues at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership on an event called "Canadian Connections" that was held at the Peninsula Ridge Winery in Beamsville, Ontario this past week.  The purpose of the event was to develop cross-border relationships between Canadian and U.S. companies that will ultimately strengthen the entire bi-national regional economy.

The event was a great success as more than 40 companies participated in a program that included BNE's "Expanding into the U.S." presentation, a panel discussion, question and answer period and a "speed networking" session w here companies met face to face to ask and answer specific questions about doing business on both sides of the border.  BNE project wins Starline USA and Electro Sonic participated throughout the program.

Since 2006 the BNE has spent more than $800,000 on eight very successful marketing campaigns, attracting 51 Canadian project wins that have created more than 1,100 jobs.  BNE investors like Phillips Lytle have provided meaningful assistance to many of these companies, and recent Buffalo Niagara Partnership initiatives like the Greater Niagara Regional Chamber speak to the value that local companies can derive by building relationships in Canada.  Thank you to Phillips Lytle for their sponsorship of this event which reinforced the great economic potential for companies on both sides of the border.

Register Now for 2012 Venture Forum

The Buffalo Niagara region will host the 2012 Venture Forum on May 16th and 17th.  Formerly the Bright Buffalo Niagara Forum, this year's event is a collaboration of Bright Buffalo Niagara and the Center for Economic Growth's Upstate SmartStart UNYTECH Venture Forum.  The new partnership will enable the two events to merge their audiences, reaching both the venture capitalists that SmartStart/UNYTECH typically attracts and the angel investors that have been the focus of Bright in past years into one, premier Upstate New York Venture Forum.

The goal of the 2012 Forum is to connect regional investment across the east coast through to the midwest of both the United States and Canada to the high-tech industry - including opportunities in energy, life sciences, IT & advanced manufacturing.  Past forums have produced great results and I would strongly encourage early and mid-stage companies and as well as investors to participate.  Click here for more information on the event, programming and to register.

And happening next week . . .
The WNY Chapter of the Urban Land Institute is hosting a workshop entitled "Leveraging Anchor Institutions for Economic Development" at the Burchfield Penney Arts Center on May 3, 2012 from 8:30 am- 10:00 am.  The presentations and panel discussion will focus on outlining strategies for economic development and real estate investment in communities surrounding academic institutions.  Click here for more information and to register for what promises to be a very engaging program.

Tell Us How Buffalo Niagara Works for You

"Buffalo offers so much to enjoy- from professional and recreation sports to all types of arts and cultural opportunities
to beautiful and affordable neighborhoods. I moved back from the Cincinnati area after attending graduate school
and working there for a few years, and I'm so glad I did. I found a great career opportunity, rejoined the Cheektowaga
Community Symphony, and have been enjoying the great people and atmosphere of Buffalo ever since!"
