Founded over sixty years ago, Moog began as a designer and manufacturer of components for the aerospace industry.
Today, an important area of Moog's business is its Medical Devices group. Its goal is to bring an unmatched combination of focus and breadth of expertise to a range of medical device technologies that will simplify processes, increase safety, and enhance patient & caregiver outcomes.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with the President of Moog's Medical Devices Group, Marty Berardi, to get his perspective on the medical device and life sciences industry in Buffalo Niagara. Here's what he had to say:
Q. What collaboration work, if any do you (Moog) participate in with other local institutions or companies? A. We are still looking for the perfect fit, but we are deeply involved in the areas of education at the University and will continue to look for the other company relationships that nest well with our device technologies.

Medical Devices: A Growing Industry

Led by industry stalwarts such as Moog, Greatbatch, and Sigma International among others, Buffalo Niagara's Surgical and Medical Instrument Manufacturing sector has grown at a faster rate (11.0%) than that of the nation as a whole (10.2%) in the last decade. Laboratory technicians, team assemblers, fabricators, and machinists are just a few of the positions that comprise the robust industry in the region, which employs nearly 900 workers and boasts an average annual salary of $70,244.

A $36 million, nine-story parking ramp opens this month on the BNMC bringing 3,100 new parking spaces. These spaces include 10 of the 21 electric vehicle-charging stations on campus. It will feature other transportation options including a Buffalo Car Share spot, the third located on the BNMC. BNMC will continue initiatives to make it easier for employees to leave their cars at home and commute to work in healthier, less expensive, and more environmentally friendly ways. Some initiatives may include a Guaranteed Ride Home Program, establishing an Employee Rewards Program, Carpool Matching, and Bike-Sharing.
