| Ribbons Cut at Ship Canal Commons | |
I was honored to join with federal, state and local officials this week in officially opening Ship Canal Commons, the 22-acre, $9.2 million public green space that is the centerpiece of Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park (BLCP). The new waterfront park boasts restored native trees, aquatic wildlife, bike paths, hiking trails, fishing spots, a pedestrian bridge that spans Union Ship Canal and a multi-use trail that connects visitors to the outer harbor, Tifft Nature Preserve and the Seaway Trail.
The formal opening of Ship Canal Commons also signals the completion of the final phases of infrastructure work at Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park - a prototypical example of a public-private economic development partnership. Congratulations to our colleagues and partners at the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation, New York State DEC, National Grid, the City of Buffalo, County of Erie, and Congressman Brian Higgins and everyone whose assistance ensured the completion of Ship Canal Commons and the success of BLCP.

Conducted by developer Mark Croce and his team, the VIP tour will include a presentation of the intricacies of the renovation and the exciting new plans for the Grande Lobby and Palm Court, the Golden Ballroom, the Terrace Room, the Lobby Bar and more.
Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and networking are all included in this ULI Young Leaders Group sponsored event. Click here for more information on the event and how to register. The Statler has spent a great deal of time in the public eye in recent years as its future has been debated and speculated on. | Visit Buffalo Niagara Releases New Video
An initiative of our colleagues at Visit Buffalo Niagara, the fourth installment of "Buffalo. For Real TV" was released yesterday. Hosted by Nelson Starr and produced by First and Main Media, it takes viewers to Ralph Wilson Stadium to educate them on one of our community's favorite past times - tailgating at a Buffalo Bills game! I was ready for kickoff after watching this great production. Click here to check it out.
The video captured loyal Bills fans showing their true colors, dressed in red, white and blue, wearing wild costumes and face paint and gearing up to hit the stadium with a level of excitement and support that makes them the best fans in the league and the real "12th Man" on the field. It also identifies some of our tasty traditional Buffalo food and shows it being cooked in some very unusual ways with some non-traditional cooking instruments. It's a great video that portrays our fans, team and community in a wonderful light. It's Buffalo. For Real.

Buffalo Niagara :: Where Life Works | | Tell Us How Buffalo Niagara Works for You
"Like too many Western New Yorkers, I moved out of the area after college in search of better opportunities. After 9 years in the Washington DC marketplace, I returned to Western New York. Being away allowed me the opportunity to appreciate all that this area has to offer. The combination of our beautiful seasons, cultural activities, sporting events, housing costs, recreational activities, education systems, result in a diverse area perfect for raising a family. However the unadvertised commodity is the people. The hardworking, caring friends, neighbors and strangers that make up this area. From the October Storm, to the block parties and numerous ethnic festivals, this area comes together, like no other I have seen. Buffalo is a great place to live and a place I am proud to be from."
