BNE investor Uniland Development Company's Avant was recognized with the Project of the Year Award at this week's Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) Annual Conference in Burlington, Vermont.  NEDA's Project of the Year Award recognizes a major economic development project based on job creation; capital investment; leveraging of development resources; use of public/private and/or intergovernmental partnerships; benefits to the surrounding community and/or environment; innovation; design excellence; transportation considerations and other direct economic impacts. 

NEDA is an organization of over 500 professional economic developers across eleven states and the District of Columbia, adding to the prestige of this award and recognition.  The Avant Building stands out in our region as one of the more complex and unique public/private partnerships and a prototypical example of how adaptive reuse projects can revitalize whole neighborhoods in our urban core.  Congratulations to Carl Montante and Uniland on this well deserved recognition. 

Our friends at Uniland weren't the only ones being recognized at this week's NEDA conference as several of our marketing initiatives were recognized in the Literature and Promotions award categories.  BNE received five awards in all, highlighted by the "Superior - Best of Class" designation for Community Profiles given to our Buffalo Niagara Economic Development Guide.   

In the Targeted Industry Materials category the "Superior" award was also given to our Dental Brochure.  "Excellent" awards were also given to our Buffalo Niagara Commercial Listing Service in the On-Line Real Estate/Property Inventory category, our Buffalo Niagara Enterprise Social Media efforts in the General Purpose category, and to our Buffalo Niagara booth at the 2011 BIO International Convention in the Special Events category.  Be sure to go to our website to check out examples of our award winning work! 

Another BNE investor is in the good news this week as Phillips Lytle LLP celebrated the grand opening of their new offices in downtown Kitchener, Ontario.  Their first office outside the United States, the firm selected space located in the innovative Communitech Hub, a digital media innovation centre intended to accelerate the development and success of technology and digital media companies.  BNE Vice Chairman and Phillips Lytle Partner Douglas Dimitroff will be one of the firm's leaders of their ongoing Canadian efforts.
