Welcome to your August issue of Access US! As we approach Labour Day weekend, be sure to utilize the many resources available to minimize your wait-time at border crossings. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission has a toll-free number (1-800-715-6722), website ( http://niagarafallsbridges.com) and even a Twitter feed ( www.twitter.com/CBSA_BWT) to provide you with up-to-the-minute bridge traffic information. And don't forget to check out the always-attractive specials at the Duty Free Shops before you cross. I will be in the Toronto-area on Thursday August 25th; if you're interested in meeting with me to learn more about doing business in the US, please send me an email ASAP: cpowell@buffaloniagara.org.

| Canadian Advanced Manufacturing Company, Greenpac Expands to Buffalo Niagara | BNE personnel first met with Norampac officials in 2005 to discuss the possibility of an expansion in the Buffalo Niagara region. The project hibernated, and wasn't rekindled until the 2008 New York-Quebec Economic Summit in Montreal. It was there that an entirely new crew of BNE and Norampac representatives discussed the company's desire to build a new facility that would manufacture new corrugated box products from recycled fibers. With 43 operating units throughout the world the company could have sited this project anywhere, and engaged a global site selection consultant to conduct a worldwide search. | Drop in New York Electric Rates, Good News for Businesses | National Grid announced that commercial customers in New York can expect to see significant decreases on their electric bills beginning in 2012. Kenneth Daly, President of National Grid's New York operations, said small business customers could see their bills go down by roughly 11 percent, while manufacturers and other large industrial customers could see their bills drop by as much as 40 percent.
The rate reductions will come as a result of the expiration of competitive transition charges implemented in 2001. Depending on the size of the business, savings could range anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000 per month, creating a huge impact on a company's ability to invest in their process or hire employees. Buffalo Niagara :: Where Life Works
| | Tell Us How Buffalo Niagara Works for You | |
"I lived and worked in New York City for 13 years. Great for the career, but when I married and we decided to raise a family, we chose to move to the Buffalo area. There is a great quality of life, wonderful neighbors, architecture, and nature."
