His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej or Rama IX, is the longest serving monarch in the history of Thailand. Constitutional head of the country, he ascended to throne on 9 June, 1946. Ninth King of the Chakri Dynasty, he was born on December 5, 1927, to Prince and Princess Mahidol of Songkhla.

European & Thai Economy:

One of our clients Paul Renard of Thaistocks.com publishes regular unbiased viewpoints and research/insights as viewed from an investor standpoint.  www.thaistocks.com and the below gives pause for thought regarding the parlous state of the European economy.

Today, I just see the 10 year long government Bond in Thailand yields 3.4%, or an unprecedented low! Vs. well over 6% in various EU countries. Shows how times have changed. IF the US bonds would be rated/treated like other countries' the interest yield would soar there -and so half the government outlays would be interest payments. Or in a plain word "bankruptcy!"

Global investors vote on bonds by chasing up or down yields. If a bond is viewed as risky it gets sold off and yields then rise. You can see what is going on in EU, where record amount of money is leaving there. Even money market notes on leading EU banks are not being renewed, it's a very serious mess with no way out?....and shows again why I remain the investor "par excellence" here in Thailand on global recession proof companies.

Thailand with all its recent problems is still one of the best places in the world to invest whether in Thai companies, bonds or property!
