Oxford Hills - The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce recently held the 25th Annual Leon Truman Golf Classic at Poland Spring Resort. Sponsored by Signature Sponsor Norway Savings Bank, the event is the Chamber's largest fundraiser, and honors the tournament's founder and long-time supporter, Leon Truman.
A field of 120 registered golfers competed for prizes ranging from golf packages and cash, to a 4-wheel drive Kawasaki Teryx provided by JEM Motorsports. While no one sunk a hole-in-one to win the Teryx, thousands of dollars in other prizes went to golfers in a variety of competitions and contests. While waiting for early morning showers to clear, golfers and volunteers enjoyed a continental breakfast provided by Dunkin' Donuts and Hannaford.
Bragging rights as the overall winner of the tournament, as well as $300 cash and the tournament's traveling trophy, went to the Northeast Bank team with a low gross score of 57. The team was comprised of Chris Delamater, Jim Delamater, Matt Simard and Norm Poulin. Second place gross and $200 cash went to Oxford Networks and team members Ryan LaVerdiere, Mike Ellingwood, Shannon LaFrance and David Verrier with a score of 58, and a best matched-card showing. Rounding out the low gross winners in third place and taking home $100 cash were the MetLife Auto and Home team of Brian Hamlin, Steve Jones, Mike Pelletier and Chris Kennison, also with a score of 58.
On the low net side, taking home $300 cash with a score of 51.2 was Champoux Financial's team of Mike Godin, Mitch Black, Dick Albert and John McCarthy. Second place low net and $200 cash went to the La Quinta Inn team of Tim Hilden, Phil Jendrick, Ryan Paradis and Josh Wyman with a score of 51.6. Third place and $100 cash went to the Norway Savings Bank team made up of David Wyman, Dick Wyman, Ray Charest and Jon Cottrell with a score of 52.6.

Closest to the pin (hole #8, 178 yards) men, was Kevin Dean at 14' 11", and ladies, Ellen Pratt at 21' 7". Longest drive ladies was Kelly Townsend, and men, Shawn Holbrook. The Casino hole contest winner of a stay and play golf package at the Bethel Inn was the Twin Town Homes team of Bob Huotari and Walter Trundy. A stay and play golf package at Poland Spring Resort was awarded in the on the green contest to Josh Wyman.
During the banquet, catered by Poland Spring Resort in the Maine Inn following the tournament, dozens of prizes ranging from golf packages, golf attire, golf club membership and professional golf lessons, to local dining, gift cards and auto detailing were handed out.
