Geena Davis - IOC World Conference on Women and Sport 2012

In February of this year, the IOC conference on 'Women and Sport' in Los Angeles featured actress Geena Davis and long-distance swimmer/sports broadcaster Diana Nyad as guest speakers and is now available to view on Youtube. Don't be daunted by the length of the video as the ending is mostly questions from the audience....some interesting questions but if you're pressed for time, just watch Geena!

Old Film or Video Footage of Cross-Country Skiing Needed!
Credit: Jean Bristow

 Old picture

Dave Rees and Jean Bristow have a long-term goal of establishing a Museum of Nordic Skiing in Canmore, Alberta so that the history and on-going evolution of our sport can be on display for all to see.   It is a big undertaking and will take a number of years to reach the ultimate goal. However, in the meantime they are asking all Canadian ski clubs and cross country skiers to search their closets, attics and basements to find old film or video footage of cross country skiing, club activities, competing in events or any other topic related to our sport!

If you have anything that would be of interest, and if you would like to share it with others, please contact Jean at [email protected]

Drew Goldsack
Two-Time Olympic Cross-Country Skier Drew Goldsack Retires from Skiing to Focus on Film Career

Two-time Olympic cross-country skier Drew Goldsack will retire from competitive ski racing, Cross Country Canada announced on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Goldsack, of Red Deer, Alta., leaves the National Ski Team after racing for more than a decade against the top athletes in the world, and competing at the Torino and Vancouver Olympics, along with three World Championships.

"I have thought long and hard about my future in ski racing and I feel like it's just time." said Goldsack. "It has been an incredible ride representing Canada at the highest level in our sport. Competing in front of a home crowd at the Olympics in Vancouver and being a part of the most successful Canadian Olympic Team of all time will be one of my fondest memories from a career loaded with unforgettable experiences! I'm now looking forward to the next stage of my life and moving on to new challenges."

"We do rollerski in the summer, but nothing replicates skiing like being on snow. You can't beat  the training in the summer like this at the Haig. It has a big role in our success and we are so lucky to have a Glacier like this right here in Canada where we can get good quality training up here."

                        ...Lenny Valjas

"Rollerskiing and skiing on snow are different enough that it is important for the athletes to get on snow when we can during the offseason to remember the feeling of snow and work on the kick. We are bagging a lot of hours on Haig and working on technique and distance skiing."
