BlueRiver Trading Ltd. joins National SkiBlue River - Smartwool logo Team's official supplier pool

Canada's cross-country ski athletes will wear SmartWool's world famous merino wool socks, which will keep them warm in an effort to achieve optimum performance over the next three years, for training, walking and competition. BlueRiver Trading Ltd is the exclusive Canadian distributor of SmartWool apparel, socks and accessories.

"Cross-country skiers spend countless hours training and competing outside, many times in very cold conditions. Minimizing distractions like cold feet or hands on the start line is critical for ensuring athletes remain focused on their performance," said Tom Holland, high-performance director, Cross Country Canada. "Having access to proper gear can be the difference between finishing on or off the podium."

New NDC Coaching Apprenticeship AWCA &CCC

As I enter into my second year as an assistant coach for the Alberta World Cup Academy, I have been shocked and pleased with the ease the transition has been going from an athlete to a coach. While coaching gives you a very different perspective on the sport and its inner workings it has been fun to share my athletic experiences with the younger athletes. I learned as an athlete that having a positive environment is critical to success. I quickly discovered that this is the foundation that has made AWCA successful in only a few short years.

Club Excellence logoClub Excellence Coop Certification Process Coming Soon! Credit: Stphane Barrette

CCC will be promoting the Club Excellence Coop (CEC) certification process to cross country ski clubs across Canada.

Club Excellence recognizes clubs and associations that invest in building capacity to meet and exceed a basic set of operating principles. The assessment is based on 30 standards in six core areas: program delivery; coaching; people management; governance; financial accountability; and marketing, recruitment and revenue generation. Through its assessment and certification process as well as resources and services provided, Club Excellence can contribute to better governance, increased financial accountability, improved integration with national and provincial sport organization programs, and increased awareness of LTAD philosophies.

CCC LogoNWSA Announces Funding Support for 2012-13

The National Winter Sport Association (NWSA) was established through the foresight and donation of the Disbrow family. This generous support of the NWSA is aimed at assisting coaches, athletes and competitive racing programs in Canada; the long-term goal is focused on boosting and sustaining Canada's performance level and ranking at the international level. During the past four seasons, the NWSA funding has contributed close to one million dollars to enhancing the delivery of club, athlete and National Development Centre (NDC) racing programs. The NWSA's platform of support has a primary target to help professionalize and expand Canada's network of cross-country ski coaches who can lead quality club racing programs. The NWSA is also committed to allocating some funding support to selected developing athletes who demonstrate potential towards long-term international level development and a clear financial need.

Wms Committee logo 2Interview with Coach Christine Bisson

Best memory as an athlete: Finishing in front of Beckie Scott at the Canadian Championships in Valcartier in 2001 and Charlo in 2004 sprint qualifiers are moments that Christine will never forget! Beckie had finished 16th in the overall and 6th in the sprint ranking of the World Cup in 2004! Christine was also the flag bearer of the Canadian delegation at the 2005 Innsbruck Universiades. Her best performance at this international event was an excellent 19th position.Christine Bisson

How does your athlete career help you in your coach's career? Christine's coaching job allows her to give back all that she learned as a competitor to the younger ones. She can share her experience as a traveller, her racing tactics, her tips to keep the motivation high, etc. Her racer's experience gives her a very good credibility among youth.
