Inge Bråten and Rick Starkman's Passing
On behalf of Cross Country Canada's staff and athletes, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Inge Bråten who passed away this past month at the age of 63. Inge helped guide the Canadian National Ski Team towards the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.The men's team produced seven top-10 results including a fourth place finish by Devon Kerhsaw and Alex Harvey in the team sprint event. Randy Starkman, who passed away recently at the age of 51, was the Toronto Star's Amateur Sport reporter, a dedicated journalist that worked tirelessly to raise the profile of amateur sport in the time between the Olympics and very well respected by the Canadian sport community, athletes, coaches and officials alike. What is a CCC Skill Development Camp?
A CCC Skill Development Camp is an integral part of a progressive club athlete development system. Camps can help children learn ski related technical skills, teamwork, self reliance and good eating habits. They can facilitate the recruitment of new participants, motivate, promote friendships, influence lifestyle choices and provide a positive introduction to activities that encourage physical fitness.

First Annual Auclair "Team Spirit" Award Presented to Devon Kershaw

During a product consultation and awards ceremony at last month's Haywood Ski Nationals, Auclair President Peter Monk presented the first annual Auclair Team Spirit Award to Devon Kershaw.
"It's a real honour to receive this award and it couldn't be more fitting than to come from Peter and his team at Auclair," commented Kershaw. "They have been a key part of our team for over 30 years and we are excited to be here this evening working hand-in-hand with them to make sure we have the optimal gloves on our hands as we continue our drive toward the podium in Sochi 2014."

AltaGas Club Coaching Support Program
Is your club interested in a $30 000 grant over three years to help hire a full time coach for the first time? The AltaGas Club Coaching Support Program is a CCC initiative aimed at supporting Canada's high performance clubs and coaches by optimizing High Performance coaches' ongoing and practical education and training. Financial support will aim at improving the outlook for more full-time professional club coaching positions in Canada and consequently increase the number of Canadian clubs delivering year round, full-service programs.

Eric Bailey Hired as CCC's Assistant Director of Coaching Development
It is with great pride and pleasure that CCC announces the hiring of Eric Bailey as CCC's Assistant Director of Coaching Development (ADCD).
The ADCD position has recently been created to increase CCC's management and delivery capacity in the area of coaching development, including management of the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) in cross country skiing. As such, the ADCD will be responsible for providing assistance with the ongoing design and development of the new NCCP system and for managing the delivery of the NCCP and complementary coaching development initiatives.

Para-Nordic National Ski Team Record Medal Winning Season - A True Team Effort! The Para-Nordic National Ski Team (PNST) recently capped off its most successful season ever by winning nine medals at the IPC World Cup Finals in Vuokatti Finland - contributing to a record 21 medals earned on the IPC World Cup circuit in 2011-12. I'm most proud of the fact that our wins came from all four of our World Cup Team athletes" said Head coach Robin McKeever, "We had a plan to train, compete and win as a cohesive team and it worked". NCCP AWAD Module & Para-Nordic Athlete Spring Camp - May 11-13, 2012
Open to adaptive athletes, guides and coaches from across Canada, this three-day camp will be a good fit if you have cross country skied in the past five years and think you might want to take a more competitive approach or are already racing and want to get a jump on your competition for next season.

Linda Dunbar Receives Canmore Mayor's Volunteer Excellence Award
Cross Country Canada wishes to congratulate one of its outstanding volunteers, Linda Dunbar, recipient of the 23rd annual Canmore Mayor's Volunteer Excellence Award. Amongst all her volunteer hours for various causes and organisations over the years, Linda has been one of the most consistent volunteer for our beloved sport.
