Don't Miss Your Chance To Win A Trip To The Olympic Winter Games (by Andrea Dupont)
George Grey & Alex Harvey-Whistler World Cup

The final year of CANADIAN PACIFIC sponsored Sea to Sea to Sea has finally arrived and with it comes the coveted Olympic prize package draw. Sea to Sea to Sea is a program that encourages club members across the country to form teams within their clubs and to together ski the distance to the Olympic site. Teams log their kilometres throughout the ski season in order to earn prizes and a chance to win a trip to the Olympics. All teams who have logged a minimum distance of 3000km by Dec 22nd, 2009 will be entered into the Olympic draw.

New teams are encouraged to become a part of Cross Country Canada's Journey to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic winter games by joining Sea to Sea to Sea. Teams and clubs joining this year will still be eligible for prizes.*

This season teams will log kilometres from December 1st, 2009 to April 30th, 2010. The Olympic draw will take place on Dec. 23rd, 2009. All remaining prizes, including the one-of-a-kind club plaques and individual awards, will be distributed after the last kilometres are logged at the end of April 2010. Club plaques will celebrate participant accomplishments and will also be a piece of history. These plaques will contain a piece of local West Coast Native artwork and will be made of wood harvested from the Callaghan Valley, where the Cross Country Skiing Olympic and Paralympic events will take place in February and March 2010.

CCC Welcomes a New Athlete Development Coordinator
 Troy Hudson
Phil Wood, CCC's Athlete Development Coordinator, recently accepted a part-time position as Track Attack coach for the Canmore Nordic Ski Club.  At the same time he will continue to assist with CCC's Coach and Athlete Development Program on a part-time basis. The flexibility of this new schedule will allow Phil to better pursue his goals as an athlete, and we wish him the best of luck in this endeavor!

Phil's successor as Athlete Development Coordinator is Troy Hudson, former coach and manager for the Golden Nordic Ski Club (Golden, BC). Among other achievements, Troy has been notably successful in fundraising for major infrastructure improvements to the club facility. Prior to being employed by the club Troy was a long-time, committed volunteer who took on a variety of roles including those of coach, event organizer and official.

Welcome to Cross Country Canada, Troy!

Volunteer of the Month: Judy May - Blow me Down Ski Club, NL (by Gerry Rideout)
 Judy May
In the cross-country ski world Judy May is a legend and legends deserve to be honored. Today on behalf of the ski community in NL, I would like to commend Judy May for her commitment, dedication and service to all of us. For almost 30 years, Judy has been giving her time to benefit skiing in our Province of NL & the country of Canada. She has volunteered at the club level, served as Provincial coach (She is Level 3 Coach & also can train Facilitators for ICC & CC Courses), Judy spent many years on the executive of CCNL and still is an active member of CCNL executive.

Currently, Judy is very busy with Blow Me Down Ski Club in Event management. With CCNL she heads up the ski team committee and junior development. Judy is also on committees with CCC. You would think this would keep any person more than busy. However, Judy keeps on doing more. This past winter she has given Introduction to Community Coach & Community Coach courses in Happy Valley Goosebay, Sheshatshiu, Port Hope Simpson, Forteau and St.Anthony. This was done with support of Statoil Hydro.

This fall and winter, Judy will be very busy again with CCNL Ski Association, being TD at the Labrador Open at Menihek Nordic in Labrador City, giving ICC & CC courses all over Nfld & Labrador again with the support of Statoil Hydro,&  participating and volunteering in her home club of Blow me Down Ski Club

The  CCNL Ski Division would like to thank Judy for her dedication & her continued support. She is an icon of our sport.

Quote of The Month
"Call it the Olympics without the hassle. You get Olympic-calibre competition without all the security lineups and the difficulty getting tickets and all that. And you can actually get close to the athletes at a World Cup which is a bonus."

Coaching Tips

"In the late fall, like now, the race season is getting ever so close so athletes can get very apprehensive about the racing. It is a psychological game that needs to be controlled. Coaches need to be aware of their athletes who are most affected by this and do their best to reassure those athletes that they have trained as well as possible up to this stage and to just ski the best that they can. Focus on the things that you can control and forget about what you cannot."
