Greetings!,
It seems that often missionaries are thought of as something special- people that have some higher than average level of spirituality which has led them to a far away land to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. Missionaries are holy, faith-filled, prayerful people that commune with God on another level and spend their days being, well, spiritual, right? WRONG! It is amusing to hear people talk like this and then compare their thoughts with reality. And what is reality? Laundry, dishes, cooking, paying bills, car repairs, doubting, disagreeing, failing, problem solving, crying, being sick; all of these make up a part of reality that is the life of a missionary. Not so spiritual, huh?
Thankfully, there is also the joy of knowing that God is able to use an ordinary life to accomplish extraordinary things.
But God chose what the world considers foolish to shame the wise. God chose what the world considers weak to shame the strong." I Cor 1:27 CEB
If you really believe you are chosen by God, this verse is not too good for your ego! God isn't looking for the brightest and best, He's looking for me...and you! He's looking for those who, like Isaiah, will say "Here am I, send me"! God had His eye on a group of young people in Eastern Europe that had a really bad start in life. He knew the agonies of life in the orphanage. He knew the fear of having no one to rely on. He knew that their restoration would involve ordinary people- His chosen people- to love them back to health and wholeness. We continue to live life with our adult orphan friends here in Sibiu. It doesn't seem like anything too spiritual, but little by little we are building relationships with those that don't trust. Cooking lessons, talks about money, discussions about relationships, going on walks, sharing meals...just being together, heart connections are being formed and lives are being built. On November 3rd, we will be leaving for 5 weeks in South Asia. Please keep us in prayer as we minister there. This is not a place we want to be without the prayers of the saints covering us! From South Asia, we are coming to the US for a month (Dec 12-Jan 11). We will update as possible during this time. Thanks for your friendship, prayers, and support. You are a vital part of God's plan to reach this world! Going for Him, Leslie and Stephanie |
