Dear Friends,
BD Logo
In this issue we look at the first of a two-part series on authentic masculinity.   The first part will discuss many of the cultural "myths" of manhood.  The second part will look at a more realistic and positive definition that we can all agree is more healthy.  I hope you enjoy these articles and will forward them to your friends and relatives.  Thanks!
What is a "Real" Man?

Have you ever noticed that sometimes you are just naturally drawn to certain men?  People like being around him.  You can't quite put your finger on what it is, but you know you like it.  When he comes into a room or walks down the street people automatically notice him-they see something different about him.  There's something invigorating and compelling about him.  It's exciting and even a little dangerous to be around him.  He's calm but confident, relaxed but prepared, kind but authentic, and bold but compassionate.  You feel safe and better about yourself in his presence.
You've just encountered authentic masculinity.  It's rare, but it's out there.
One of the most misunderstood questions today is, "What is a real man?"  In this two-part article we'll look at some false attributes our culture thinks a "real" man possesses and then we'll investigate what authentic masculinity really looks like.

Dear Rick,
I would like to thank you for your book "The Power of a Man."  I randomly picked it up at the airport, began reading it, and the words just jumped off the pages and into my heart.  I am a 25 year old "young" man in the entertainment industry.  Over the last 7 years I have been faced with many obstacles that have hindered me from becoming the man I know I can be.  Presently I am on fire, especially after reading your book, and many books in order to gain wisdom and knowledge in order to be a true leader.  I have realized, as you say in your book, how media distorts people's perception on life.  Entertainment and the arts can and do inspire and change people's lives.  The problem is that you rarely see those products.  I think God has led me out here, in a town where so many are lost, in a town that affects the world, to help change the world through art and entertainment.  I am slowing building a network/community of young independent creative individuals like myself, to come together as one unit, using all of our talents and gifts that God has so graciously given us, to create content that speaks to the soul.  On top of that, helping and inspiring people that we meet along the way.  I just wanted to send you an email to say thanks for sharing the light and wisdom in your heart, and inspiring me to continue to do the same.
Best

"My husband told me he found you on facebook, so I had to look you up as well!  He gave me "That's my son" as a Christmas gift and it was the best gift I received this year!  Thank you so much for offering humor in situations that will be tough to get through as my son grows older.  I look forward to reading it again in another couple of years and reading through the notes I have made while he is still so young.  I have to admit, it has taught me so much about my husband as well.  Thank you so much...I look forward to reading more of your work in the future!"

I am actually half way through reading your book, Better Dads Stronger Sons.  I had to write to you because your book was written specifically for me and I truly believe that it is saving my life.  I am not going to bore you with too many details but I have purchased a few dozen copies of your book and I am giving them out to people that I care about.  I have been miserable and totally unfulfilled.  Your book has opened my eyes more then you can imagine..
