They're Jumpin' In Jupiter
For many anglers the word "Sailfish", conjures visions of an acrobatic billfish tailwalking a few yards from the transom. There are few fish that put on a show like this, and as a result they are one of the most highly targeted gamefish in the ocean. Ask anyone who has seen one of the gorgeous creatures all lit up beside the boat, and they will tell you a tale of excitement and endurance. Sailfish can burn a hundred yards of line off a reel in mere seconds, then turn and run toward toward the boat faster than you can wind the line back on the reel.
As billfish go, sails are probably the most 'angler friendly' bill to catch. Unlike the 400 to 800 pound marlin, sails typically range in the 50 to 90 pound class, making them a lot of fun for everyone in the family. And you can handle the action of several of these high flyers in a day, without becoming completely exhausted.
On this Nuts & Bolts adventure, Capt. Joe Dobbins and Capt. Cefus McRae do exactly that in the blue waters just off the coast of Jupiter, Florida. Using the technique of live baits suspended under kites yields multiple hook-up's throughout the day, and even a double hook-up. Typically, sailfish season in southwest Florida is the winter months, but this isn't a typical fishing show. Capt. Joe and Capt. Cefus go on a sailfish safari on one of the hottest days of the year, to prove that being in the right place with the right technique produces fish regardless of the season.
Learn how to catch and rig the live baits, and how a kite can be a very effective fishing tool in this Nuts & Bolts episode. So have your breakfast with the Nuts & Bolts crew this Sunday morning on Fox Sports Net-South in the Southern Outdoors block at 7:15am.

HOOK UP WITH A ROD HUKI
No More Gimbal Bruises!
Tired of the end of the rod digging into your hip, waist and belly? Rod belts are cumbersome, they slip and slide around your waist, and they never seem to fit right.
Here's the Solution. A Rod Huki. They slip right on the end of your rod in less than a second, letting you fight the fish from virtually any position. Plus the gimbal pin insert keeps your rod from twisting while you're reeling.
They're extremely comfortable, and THEY FLOAT!
Once you try one of these out, you'll never go back to the old 'belly belts' again.
Fight The Fish, Not The Rod

Be Kind To Your Battery
Unless you have a pull-start outboard, or you fish from a kayak or canoe, you have a 12 volt battery on board -- maybe even several. Unlike your car battery, which gets a charge almost every day from driving it around, boat batteries might sit for days, weeks or even months before they are called upon to spin the starter.
According to Capt. Robert Estrada of TowBoatUS, one of the most frequent calls for assistance relates to a dead battery. Everything from playing the stereo all day which runs the battery down, to poor battery maintenance and corroded connections. It's the old "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" thing. On a lot of boats, the marine battery is located in a damp compartment -- like on a shelf in the bilge area. Damp environments and electrical connections are not the best of friends. Checking your battery condition and connections ought to be a part of every boater's Pre-Launch Check. That 'blue goo' that occurs at connection points can wreak havoc in a marine environment, and those little corrosion gremlins are hard at work, 24/7. Take a couple seconds to check your connections, and perform a little preventative maintenance once a month, during the season. It will pay big dividends while you're on the water.
In this video clip, Capt. Cefus shares some easy battery maintenance tips that will keep your battery and its connections in good shape.
