Visionary Leader Header
Dear Reader,

After a fall season of inspiration, I am really looking forward to next week's radio show as the perfect closing to 2011. My wise friend, Leadership and Life Coach Bette George will join us to ring out 2011 and show us how to ring in the New Year using visioning instead of resolutions. Bette's approach is grounded in the philosophy, "be present to the life you have in order to lead the life you imagine." With her guidance, we'll look at all the 2011 brought us, talk about how -- and why --  to prepare for a new year, and begin the process of ringing in the new one. This show is my gift to all of you -- an easy, renewing and fun way to celebrate what has happened and what is yet to come.

The New Year always invites us to make bold resolutions and start anew. Yet, year after year, how many of us look regretfully at the year behind, vaguely remembering our lost resolutions? Join Host Kate Ebner and her wise friend, Leadership and Life Coach Bette George for a conversation about how to close this year and begin 2012 with a strong sense of purpose, renewal and direction. Kate and Bette will explain why New Year's resolutions often don't work and will show you how to use visioning to bring new energy and possibilities to your life in the year ahead. You will enjoy the guidance and resources provided to make the upcoming year your best ever. This show is a "visioning how-to" with a focus on 2012. Learn More.

Steps for achieving your goals
Deborah Frieze, author of Walk Out, Walk On

This week on Visionary Leader, Extraordinary Life, guest Deborah Frieze shared stories of people and communities who are walking out with a vision to walk on to a better way of living. We hope that Deborah's advice below on achieving your vision will help you as you set your own goals for 2012.

  1. Take small actions. You can't change the world all at once. Take it one step at a time. Myron Kellner-Rogers coined the phrase, "Start anywhere, follow if everywhere." Remember to take small steps and be open to following them wherever they may take you.
  2. Find fellow travelers. Being a leader and charting your own path can be lonely. Find others to turn to when you lose your way - they will help motivate you to keep moving along your chosen path.
  3. Practice reflection. Know where you are and where you came from. Ask yourself, "What do I see now? Am I still on the path I want to be? What small step can I take to get myself back on the right path?"

On roadmaps to the future...

The world is fundamentally unpredictable, uncontrollable, highly complex and highly interconnected. We can't plan our way into the future with a certain kind of strong roadmap and step by step linear process.  What we can do is set our intention and work alongside the complexity and the chaos.
