Visionary Leader Header
Dear Reader,

The calendar year has a rhythm and pace that echoes the school year. In autumn, our collective pace picks up, gaining momentum until, by early December, we are riding a wave of productivity and activity that finally and thankfully crashes on the quiet wintery beach of early January.

After a break, we return to our work, full of resolutions and declarations about what we will accomplish in the New Year. The period from January to May is another bustling time, pausing only slightly for spring break and spring holidays until, finally summer arrives, providing much needed vacation and a chance to get away once again. The big slowdown comes in July and August and then, as school buses return to their routes along our commutes, the pace begins to accelerate again.

This pace seems to repeat itself year after year, a rising tide of momentum followed by a brief lull and then another long period of productivity. It's a strenuous and predictable cycle -- one that we can actually anticipate so as expend and, most importantly, renew our energies in synch with the flow of life.

Here we are in late November, getting ready to ride 2011 to its close. Rather than fight the waning energies of the year, why not allow yourself to slow down and enjoy the season of long nights, crisp days and gathering lights? Now is the perfect time to take stock of this good old year, wind down 2011 projects and start to gather creative ideas for 2012. Now is an ideal time to make space for celebration of family, friends, community and the triumphs and struggles of the year soon behind us. Now is the perfect time to stoke your inner fires and renew your energies for the enticing potential of the new year.

Leadership presence is the difference between leaders who inspire us and those who don't. Host Kate Ebner and CranioSacral Therapist Suzanne Scurlock-Durana have collaborated to bring Suzanne's creative approach to energy and presence to leadership coaches working with executives wanting to improve their leadership presence. As teacher, energy therapist, author and speaker, Suzanne has developed life-changing tools for stress-management and full body presence. She is passionate about teaching skills that allow people to feel the joy of being present in each moment without burning out. Her own inspiring vision is to shift the paradigm from a world of people who are disconnected to the wisdom of the body to a world of embodied and awakened people who know how to draw upon and sustain the body as our most valuable resource. Join Kate and Suzanne to learn how to develop your presence as a leader -- a presence that will ground and support your vision, helping you to bring it fully to life.

Maggie McGuire:  Three Guiding Questions to Help You Achieve Your Goals

Maggie McGuire's optimism is truly contagious. We hope you caught her energetic interview on Monday, November 21st when she shared her vision of how to lead from values. By day, she is Vice President, eScholastic, Kids and Parent Channels Online, but Maggie uses the same strategies with her growing family that help her creative teams manage challenging situations. Maggie's questions can help you move from overwhelmed or stuck into motion and purposeful action.

Question 1:  What's possible?

What can be done? Think big about what you want to accomplish, and look for paths to possibility.

Question 2:  What progress can be made?

It doesn't matter how big or small the progress - just that there is progress. Baby steps will still get you to the finish line.

Question 3:  How else could it be done?

If you get stuck, don't just throw in the towel. Think about how else you might be able to achieve your goal. There is almost always more than one path to take. A small compromise down a different path might just let you achieve your goal.
