Dear Reader,
Last spring, Master Coach Chris Wahl and I led a program called "Gutsy Transitions" at the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Alumni Conference. The room was filled with people and when we asked out of curiosity, "how many of you are undergoing a personal transition?," every single hand shot up. Chris inquired, "Were you drawn to the word "gutsy" in relation to transition? The answer was a resounding "YES!." Let's face it: we're all in transition in one way or another and not every transition is one of our choosing. No matter what kind of change, our transitions require courage, heart, humor and vision.
I invite you to tune in for this live show with Chris Wahl, founder of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program. We will look deeply into the questions and concerns that accompany big life and career transitions and help you find the perspective and inspiration to be gutsy as you move from where you are today to the desired future you imagine.
Best wishes,
Kate Ebner CEO Nebo Company |

Tips for Success from Booz Allen Executives Susan Penfield and Karen Dahut
Last week, these two accomplished leaders shared their perspectives about how to fulfill your highest potential while thriving personally. Here are some of their secrets.
Work smarter, not harder. It is not about the number of hours you put in each day - it is about the quality of the work. Learn to take risks on others by surrounding yourself with really talented people and trust them to speak and work on your behalf.
Life is a journey you need to take at your own pace. Define your own life and career timeline. Don't be pressured by anyone else to fall into the 'normal' career trajectory. Taking time off to travel, to start a family, etc. might be just what you need to be motivated and a better person when you step back into the workforce. Keep that career vision, just be flexible with the timeline.
Maintain a strong peer network. Many people are so busy managing up and down, they let their peer networks atrophy. Keep your peer networks strong as those connections may be the most important as you and your peers progress through the organization.
Find someone who encourages you. Remember you don't need to go it alone. Find colleagues, partners, mentors that can encourage you through the touch times.
Recognize the importance of feedback. Give it, take it, and incorporate it into your work. Accept feedback from all directions.
Be authentic. Be yourself. You will connect more easily with others and perform at your best when you are true to who you are. Capitalize on your strengths and mitigate your weaknesses through the development of others.
Take your rightful seat at the table. Make your voice and opinions heard by becoming a critical contributor to the conversation.
These seven ideas are just part of the wisdom imparted during the show by these proven leaders. To learn what they know about career success, especially in fields primarily led by men and to hear how vision plays a part, check out the show.

One Executive's Personal Vision...
My vision for myself is to lead a balanced life, which includes work. I love my firm, my job and my colleagues -- but it is not my life. I don't define myself by my title or role. When I leave this world, I hope that I leave it a better place than when I arrived. I have four priorities, of which family is number one. The other three priorities are work, community, and self - taking care of myself so that I will be here a long time in order to take care of my other priorities.
