The Learning Circle Header

Dear Fellow Coach,

Coaches often contact us to ask what else they might learn about becoming a fine coach -- and we're seeing a wealth of news, opportunities, and information. This free enewsletter, The Learning Circle, is our answer to helping you to stay in the proverbial loop about what's going on.

The name of the newsletter, The Learning Circle, is inspired by the Learning Circles at Georgetown's coaching program, where coaching students have the opportunity to form a smaller circle for intensive and deeply meaningful learning. We hope each issue will bring you new ideas, knowledge, inspiration and useful information that you can use to advance as a coach.

If you would like to advertise in The Learning Circle, please contact Erin Gregg. To suggest an article topic, book or other resource, please e-mail me.

Enjoy this first issue, and please keep your feedback and ideas coming so that we can make this newsletter an ideal resource for you as a coach.

Kate Ebner

Sincerely,

Kate Ebner

Coach Profile: Kelly Lewis

Kelly Lewis
Kelly Lewis
Founder & Managing Partner
Bounce Collective
Richmond, VA

Kelly Lewis experienced coaching as an executive at Capital One and knew it was her future. "Why didn't anyone teach me this in school?" she asked herself, reflecting on the leadership lessons that came through the coaching experience.

Today, she manages a creative and highly collaborative organization called The Bounce Collective, which she founded in 2008 in Richmond, Virgnia, to bring what she knows about leadership, community, and learning to young people and corporate executives alike. As Kelly puts it, "Bounce expands the way people see and engage in the Me, We, World of relationships." She and her colleagues have developed a cutting edge learning model that provides a meaningful way for people and organizations to develop while bringing communities together.

Corporate leaders sign up for experiential leadership programs with Bounce and are matched with a classroom of 6th grade students, an at risk teenager, a young person experiencing the impact of loss, or a group of boys and girls looking for a safe place to learn and grow. During the course of training, leaders provide leadership and mentoring for the young people, while learning directly about their own leadership from application and real time feedback from the youth. The leaders also benefit from the support of coaching during these programs.

Recently, Kelly was featured in a mini-documentary by well-known filmmaker Nic Askew. Watch her video online and learn more about her philosophy.

Kelly Lewis earned her Leadership Coaching Certificate from Georgetown University and has been designated a Professional Certified Coach (PCC). She currently serves on the faculty of Georgetown University's Leadership Coaching program. She has been the Capstone Director for Georgetown's Leadership and Ethics Summer Program for High School Students.

This month, Kelly Lewis was one of 15 winners of Workforce Mangement's first Game Changers award. The Game Changers are all 40 years old and younger and are making their mark in human resources and other areas of workplace management.

What is the story you've been telling about your life up until now? Whether or not you realize it, the way you think about and tell your own life story is having an enormous impact on your future possibilities. Full Body Presence

On October 12-13, Nebo partnered with well-known author, therapist and instructor Suzanne Scurlock-Durana from Healing from the Core to offer Full Body Presence I for Coaches. The 12 coaches in attendance learned how to set and hold healthy boundaries while holding a "sacred space" for clients. Suzanne helps coaches build solid skills for their own personal energy management and renewal.

Participants raved about the workshop. After the program, one participant wrote, "My mind is still whirling with ideas, and I am looking forward to practicing...."

Nebo will offer this course again in early 2012. Stay tuned for details.

Participants in Full Body Presence for Coaches may move on to Your Signature Energy Presence and more.  If you are interested in learning more about the somatics of presence, this series might be for you.

One of our participants also recommended a unique opportunity to practice presence called Team Horse Sense. Learn more about this program at Nobodaddy Farm in Palmyra, PA.
