Visionary Leader Header
Dear Reader,

The first week in September is one of the most intense times of the year for so many of us. After an August of light traffic and quieter days, suddenly everyone is back on the roads, in the office and, of course, at school. This busy week is a great time to practice being fully present and mindful as you drive to work, catch up on emails, and attend to the adjustments that may be taking place at home and at work. Although there's urgency all around you, remember that you have a choice about how you move in the world this week. Your effectiveness can go way up, and you can be a center of calm and perspective for others rather than getting caught in the wave of stress that is typical of the week after Labor Day.

In this issue, read about the amazing call to action that Jim Kiles, Program Director of FOUR YEARS. GO. and CEO of Living Networks Media put forth for all of us in last week's radio show and discover what Jim believes will be one of the greatest opportunities of our time, the development and use of technology to create living networks.

Most of all, enjoy the short week and the purposeful energy of the fall season. And do consider tuning in on September 12 to hear kids' media executive Amy Friedman share her clear vision for her life -- and how that's guiding her career.

FOUR YEARS. GO.

Technology entrepreneur and civil rights attorney Jim Kiles, Founder and CEO of Living Networks Media, didn't have a good answer when his children came home from school one day and asked what he was doing about global climate change. Shortly after this conversation with his children, he found himself at a summit of innovative thinkers who were planning a global campaign designed to launch a movement towards a more sustainable future. Jim offered to lead a strategic planning session, and one conversation quickly led to another.

FOUR YEARS. GO. Logo Today, Jim serves as Program Director for FOUR YEARS.GO., a campaign to shift humanity's course toward a just, fulfilling and sustainable future by the end of 2014. People around the world are invited to stand together and take courageous actions to bring about a future worth having. In this capacity, he links his expertise at using technology to build living networks with a campaign designed to engage real people in action that can change the world.

Jim shares, "Nothing happens by mistake. Here we stand, right now, on the cusp of one of the greatest human problems in the history of the world. At the same time, we have all of the solutions available to us if we just get into action in support of those solutions.  It is not a simple task. It is on a scale comparable to the way in which the US answered the call in WWII to design tanks and airplanes that could save the world. It will take an effort of collective action -- everyone needs to be excited."

On Leadership...

Everybody has their own circle of friends that they can incite to take action. The leader is always YOU. The followers are your own circle of friends and family. Each of the people within your circle then becomes the leader in their own circle.  Together, we can ignite a passion in our networks to make a difference.
